Need help!!!! 😡😢😡

So we are dry camping for the first time with our new Jayco. After parking, we disconnected the battery to charge at home til we were ready to move in. Upon hooking it back up, we noticed that our electric tongue jack didn't work. Everything else did, lights, fridge, air. So we asked our neighbor for assistance. He said, oh you have the polarity backwards. So we switched it and popped the 3 fuses that the dealer said we would pop if we hooked it up wrong. Well we finally realized what was going on and got it hooked up correctly. But our power jack and radio are not functioning. We have changed 3 fuses in the panel and one outside by the battery connecting the jack.

What are we missing? What have we done?

I've contacted the dealer but we just aren't quite sure what is going on and are looking for some guidance from you guys.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure, but once you get everything operational again I would take a picture of the correct setup. We did this because we keep our campers in a lot in the winter and remove the batteries and gas tanks. We simply look at the picture of the wiring and then hook it back up as it should be.

Good luck!

Check fuse in truck. It should be a large one probably 30-40 amp. On my Dodge the trailer brakes and power for the electric jack are the same pin at the 7-way plug. Should be a large 30-40 amp fuse in the truck fuse box.

But the truck harness wouldn't have anything to do with the jack not working while simply running off AC power

Check to see if you have an inline fuse between the jack motor and the wherever the jack power is connected to the trailer. Mine has an inline fuse that will break connectivity with the slightest of corrosion!

Check that the electric jack is getting a good ground at the base plate/screw..., and could also be a bad switch on the jack. As far as the radio.., could be fuse, loose wire connection??

Check to see if your in the charge control panel has a polarity fuse, if so it may have blown.

We have a 33 bhts and I lost the trailer brakes on the way home from camping on memorial day weekend. Upon inspection I found two ground wires had come out of a blue wire nut. This wiring was inside the four by four residential style junction box mounted on the frame behind the battery. I rewired mine and it fixed it.
Not for sure if this will help you but I would look in there to see what may have came loose.

Usually the jack is direct connected to the battery terminals. Are you sure you have all of the cables going to the battery hooked up. Might have missed one.

If the jack has RED and BLACK wires the RED goes to positive and the Black to negative. Same with radio if it was added later. They normally come with RED and BLACK cables. Here again the RED will go to the positive terminal and the Black to the negative.

The standard trailer wiring uses BLACK and White cable pairs where BLACK goes to POSITIVE and the WHITE goes to NEGATIVE...

gets exciting if the both automotive wiring colors and trailer wiring colors get mixed up...

using your cell phone camera for times like this is priceless...

I sometimes use RED tape or RED fingernail polish on all the cables that go to the POSITIVE terminal. Then at my age I forget which terminal got marked the Negative or the Positive hehe...

I would check to see if the jack is getting power. To do this I would slightly cut into the positive power wire going to the jack and with a volt meter check to see if you have 12 volts from the power wire to ground. If you have power than its the switch or the jack. If no power than check the wire back to the battery or fuse block. Thats what I would do.

If you have your neighbor turn around, it will make it easier to whack him in the back of the head.

I had a similar issue with mine. Once it was a grounding issue and occasionally mine trips out on thermal overload. There is no indication that it is tripped out, I just leave it sit for a few minutes and it starts to work again. Like others said, check with a meter to see if voltage is going to the Jack. That will answer a lot of questions.

I also have hooked up the battery backwards once and blew a few fuses. If I remember correctly, I had to pull the radio out of its cavity and replace an in-line fuse behind it.

As others have said, you probably blew the fuse behind the radio when connecting your battery up backwards. The fuse to jack probably was also blown. That fuse is somewhere between battery and jack. Most likely an inline fuse.

I'm pretty sure it is the two fuses mentioned in this post (been there and done that). Once I replaced the fuses and got everything working again I got some red and blue electrical tape. Put the red near the end of the + lead and the blue near the end of the - lead as I remove my battery every time I store the rig and did not want to hook up backwards again.

Look at your battery and check to see if you have 2 wires going to the positive terminal. You may not have connected the hot lead for the tongue jack.

Question

Sounds simple - but I had a similar situation and found that the electric jack was retracted to high, above the safe line. I attached the trailer pug to the truck for power and was able to lower the shaft.
