Need help

I have a 2011 Jay flight g2 32 bhds. The right front corner of the trailer started coming apart on the outside. I started looking into why and the whole corner is rotted out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix or replace it? I'm new to travel trailers and my family and I live in it full time.

Hate to say it, but that will take a major rebuild of the framing. Not a simple fix.

Did you check the caulking around the trim and on the roof every six months as required?

No I didn't, I wasn't told to check. I bought it used about 8 months ago. This is my first trailer, I'm still learning. That sucks, I wasn't sure if I could just replace the wood in the corner and reseal it.

Your pics look sideways to me, but your subject seems to be the the lower area of the front/corner of the camper?

Yes, that appears to be serious wood rot. Water intrusion from up above. If you follow that serious damage UP, you will find the actual source of the water entry.

Any damaged framing wood will have to be replaced. You can go about this in different ways; from the inside or outside. Either way you need to go up and find solid framing wood. I would suggest working from the inside.

You need to tear out the inside wall and peal away until you find solid framing wood. Then you need to remove all the rot wood and fabricate all new framing to replace it. That being a curve; not easy. Do your best.

Seal all you outside seams with proflex, you may encounter more of this.

That was probably going on long before you bought it unfortunately.

Sorry about your wood rot issue. Fortunately there are lots of posts here and other forums that provide very good details on repair and restoration. If you are at all handy, don't be discouraged! I hope you decided to fix it. If so, please post your results here so all of us can share in the results. Go for it!

Even with the damage done, you should find the leak and seal it with dicor (or eternabond tape) and do what you can to close it back up in order to prevent further damage. I would suspect the leak is coming from the roof line. ~CA

I'm definitely gonna dig into it, and figure out how to fix it. I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad or hard to fix. Sounds like I'm in for a fun time lol.

Our 32 RBDS had a leak that affected that same area. Caught it before any major damage. Hard to spot as you need to look in the pass through to see it. Seems the seam on the roof at that area is a week spot.

Need Help

I would suggest that you check with trailer repair place. It might be more than you want to tackle. I have a soft floor that needs repaired. I am going to go this way, just to be on the safe and correct. Some of my projects have not gone well.

I pulled the siding back about half way up the trailer, had to remove the storage door. Pulled out the rotted wood, and made my own replacement out of 1x6. I traced the curved piece and it matched up pretty good. I didn't get pics of the inside. It only took a couple hours to fix.

Check your other side while at it. Common area for leaks.
