New 28BHBE owner!

We traded our 26BH in today for a 2018 28BHBE. The DW and kids are super excited about the new TT and the huge interior space it offers over the old camper. We had a good service tech that walked us thru most of the items I wasn't familiar with and I only found the interior bathroom door slightly out of wack but they couldn't fix on the spot.

I didn't buy much from the dealership's store despite their "special pricing". They gave us a $50 gift card for in-store purchases so I bought a Maxxair vent cover (free installation) and some slide seal conditioner.

They swapped over my E2 WDH bar brackets and raised my hitch up a bit and the unit looked fairly level and it towed great on the way home. They installed some quick links after finding the safety chain hooks wouldn't fit thru my hitch. I don't know the suggested weight of those quick links so I might ditch them for something more robust later.

When we got to our storage lot I encountered a few more issues. First, one of my kids noticed a (plastic) floor register had a hunk broken out of it. I looked at the other register and it was cracked but not broken, probably the result of over tightening the screws into the floor. Next, I ran into issues with the tongue jack. I failed to bring a block of wood and ran the jack to its max where it stopped working on battery. I hooked up the IV cable to my truck and it worked again then borrowed a large hunk of wood from another TT to raise up the tongue. The tongue latch is different than the one on the 26BH and I could not get the ball to release on several attempts. I finally took my WHD lever and pried down on the ball head to get it to release.

Anyway, we have been planning this purchase for a long time and we are super excited to have the added space. We made some great times in the 26BH and camped in 5 different states in it. We can't wait for the spring to make more memories and I can't wait to start some mods!

Congratulations on your new 28BHBE's. You will love the space and the shower.
I have never had any trouble unhooking from the ball. of course, my ball has grease on it.
I raise the tongue jack high enough (while still connected to the ball) to drop the spring bars. Then I lower the jack so a lot of weight is on the ball, un-latch the ball, then raise the tongue jack. Ball always drops right out!

Congrats on your new 28BHBE!!!

We also traded our 26BH in on a 2018 28BHS back in January this year.

We had some things that needed to be addressed during the walk through which they took care of right then and there. The last couple items they will be taking care of when I bring it back to them in a few weeks.

We very much enjoyed the 26BH and made a lot of good memories with it. It was a huge upgrade from our pop-up. We absolutely love the extra room that the side offers and that HUGE shower!!!! Also like having the door to the master bedroom vs the curtain and the list goes on.

Our dealer would not swap over the WDH even though I got it from them and they had installed it on the 26BH originally... so I installed it myself after the walk through. I did end up upgrading the spring bars from 800lb to the 1200lb bars before the camping season started.

It tows very nice for sure. Didn’t have any issues with the extra length or weight.

The 28 definitely sits up much higher than the 26 did. I have to use two blocks in my driveway in order to get it to level up where I didn’t use any blocks with the 26.

I used to have a lot of problems getting the hitch off the ball on the 26, and I did have it give me trouble a couple of times this summer in the 28. This is even with the ball and hitch coupler being generously greased.

In addition the adding a slide awning as part of the deal, I’ve done a few mods to the 28 including adding the 3rd door above the queen bed where the blank spot is, upgraded the faucets in the bathroom and outdoor kitchen, transferred over the LevelMate Pro from our 26, added the MaxxAir II over bathroom vent cover, added the tireminder TPMS and its booster, added a key rack by main door, added the Camco screen door bars to both screen doors, added the clear corner protectors to the outside corners of cabinets in high traffic or wear areas, transferred the bug screens over from the 26 for the refrigerator, hot water and furnace vents, transferred the Atwood kitchen stove cover over from the 26, added a Simple Human paper towel holder above sink in the kitchen, moved the bathroom hand towel holder to a more functional spot, took towel holder off the bathroom door and relocated as well as adding a 2nd towel holder in the bathroom, added the little metal shock to the cabinet door under the radio and I transferred the Furrion high speed wireless observation camera over from the 26 as the 28 was already prepped with the camera housing and wire. I still have more mods I would like to do in the spring.

Like you, can’t wait for warmer weather so we can get back out there and enjoy it.

Enjoy and Best Wishes for many more memories in your new Jay Flight!

Happy Holidays

Duke

Congrats on the new TT!

As far as your power jack stopping on battery when you were unhooking, if you did in fact run it out to its max, you probably blew the fuse near the battery. That's why hooking back to your vehicle worked when the trailer battery did not. Replace the fuse and you "should" be good to go from the battery again.

Enjoy the Jayco!

Thank you! We have no immediate plans for a shakedown trip because most of the local CGs are closed for the season. I plan to spend a few hours in the TT next weekend checking things out even if it just stays in the storage lot.

Thank you and thanks for the info on the fuse! I’ll have to get back out the storage lot with a multimeter and some fuses when the weather cooperates here.

We had issue’s with our 2018 28BHBE bathroom door and floor vents as well, caught them before we made the deal and they fixed them no problem. I’ve only done the ac vent mod, and built some brace’s under the queen bed/passthru area. We’ve had no issue’s with ours and it’s now put away for the winter, can’t wait for April to bring it back home for the year. Congrats!

To add to your Honey Do List, replace 30 amp fuse with a 30 amp breaker, put an on/0ff marine switch by the battery to isolate the battery and eliminate parasite drain when not in use. Add 6" pc pipe with caps to rear bumper to store sewer hose etc in.Get an over the door hanger for bathroom door to hang clothes on while you shower. More to come when you get this all done.
