new ford F250 and 2.5 hitch

well my new truck F250 Super Duty..has a 2.5 inch hitch...I can get the receivers okay but getting a shank for the WD is driving me crazy..when I called reese they said they had em but not for round bars that I had to buy a new WD system...I have the sleeve that coverts it to a 2in but real sloppy and why not use a more muscle shank if it is available...help!!!! Where to buy etc....all I need is a shank

I had the same issue with my setup. When I traded in my F-150 for a new F-250, it came with the class V 2 1/2" Receiver.

I bought a $20 2 1/2" to 2" insert sleeve, but I had to grind on it to get it to fit in. When I slid the WD hitch in it was real sloppy. Due to the amount of force that the WD bars put on it though it is not an issue.

I have heard tha Ford sells a sleeve that fits better, but it's about $75

Maybe you should have bought a GMC. The 2-1/2" to 2" adapter came with the truck and fits like a glove.

The only problem I'm having with the adapter is remembering to remove it from the receiver after I've unhooked the trailer. I've ridden around for several days sometimes before noticing that it's still in there. With no pin to hold it in there (I store that in the trailer when I remove the hitch platform), disasterous results could occur if the adapter fell out while driving.

I bought the $20 sleeve too, when I traded up to the 250 from 150. I had to grind on it and it still did not seat all the way in and the pre drilled holes would not line up. I ended up turning it 90 and drilling new holes in it. Works fine as far as I know. Good luck!

well I did receive one with the ford, but when it comes to pulling the TT i want a real 2.5 shank so I get no slop when I stop and go...do you just use your sleeve and original 2inch set up, pulls okay??

side note I looked at all the trucks and Ford with the new 6.7 and King Ranch interior blew away Dodge and Chevy...and ford did not use my taxes to build it.....smiles!!!

I am also using the adapter. When the trailer is hooked up, the "slop" is barely noticeable. However, I am going to get a new hitch set-up. Finally going with the Reese dual cam and a 2 1/2 inch shank from etrailer.com. You are right, the 2 1/2 shank will not work with round bar systems-only trunnion bars.

I test drove a 2011 F250 King Ranch Diesel and it came from the factory with the sleeve to use a standard shank. Better get your salesman on the phone.

Ever consider taking the sleeve to a welding shop and having them do a permanent mount. It shouldn't have any slop if it is welded in.

The GM adapter is flared on one end so it will only slide in one way and is right up against the opening when you install the locking pin. To me, "slop" is a variable term and what is acceptable to one person is unacceptable to another. Therefore, I can only say that, in my case, I find the adapter that was supplied by GM is acceptable. I don't notice any more noise/slop than the 2" receiver that was on my 1996 Ford F-250.

The King Ranch is Ford's top-of-the-line trim level. What trim levels of GMs and Dodges were you comparing it against? You don't say. I mean, like, if you were comparing it to, for example, a GM Work Truck (which you probably weren't), then yes, it would blow you away. But then, again, you're going to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 60+K for the luxury of having that trim level.

In the end, though, you're the guy paying for it. They're beautiful trucks, but when you get to that level of cost, I'd add another 25+K and go for an MDT. Then you're ready to pull any kind of travel or fifth wheel trailer.

An MTD would make a great puller but they are not real practical for parking lots and day trips to see things.

My Reese hitch is 2.5" and I find the sleeve sits snug. In fact, it's a bit difficult to remove. Once the pin is fixed there shouldn't be any really noticeable slippage. ProPride let me choose a 2.5" shank. But the sleeve will still be used for our other ball mounts.

My DuraMax has this too.. I had the 2" adapter welded into place... make sure the welding shop does a full weld or the adapter might shift a little and then you cant get the pin in.... found this out the hard way
