New Jayco Eagle 330RSTS Towing
I am looking to purchase a new Jayco Eagle 330RSTS. I will be towing it with a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 standard bed with the 6.2 liter gas engine and the max trailer towing package. I will be using a load leveling equalizer hitch. I am concerned about the hitch weight. Anyone have this camper and truck combination? Does this truck tow it well?
Thanks,
Scott

my receiver says what the tongue weight max is for the receiver. The owners manual should also tell you. 8^)

Just my 2 cents we tow with a One ton Ram, I think a 2500 would even work,I d not even attempt to tow the 330 with a 1/2 ton But that's just me ,Maybe some one will weigh in .... we have what I think is a top of the line tow package Blue ox set up .
PS YOU will love this camper !! we special ordered ours and picked it up in Iowa !

I will second the notion that you will absolutely LOVE the 330RSTS, if that is what you end up purchasing. However, you will most likely NOT enjoy towing it with a half ton, even with the max tow package.
I have a 2017 330RSTS and with the trailer loaded and weighing approx. 11,000#, my tongue weight is just north of 1600#. I am towing it with a GMC Sierra 2500HD SB 4WD SRW 6.0 gasser w/4:10 rear and lets just say I wouldn't want to tow it with anything less. And in fact, I am already planning on upgrading to the Duramax.
Although you might be a 1000# or so under the max towing capacity of that truck, my concerns go further than that and the old adage of "just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should" comes to mind.
What is the cargo capacity for that truck? Mine is 2900# and my guess is that your 1500 will be at least maxed out if not over even before you attempt to put anything in the bed. What is the rating on your receiver? My previous 1500 receiver was only rated for a tongue weight of 1200/12000# and even my 2500HD was only rated at 1500/15000# so I upgraded the receiver on my 3/4 ton solely based on my tongue weight.
Then there are considerations on the workout your going to give not only the engine and tranny but brakes and shocks/springs as well. In other words Scott, and I am not trying to be a "debbie downer" here, but knowing what I know now with towing my 330RSTS for over a year now back and forth in Michigan as well as to Florida and back this past winter, there is absolutely NO way I would attempt it with anything less than I already am.

Towing Truck upgrade??
Thanks for the Post. I think I will have to move up to the GMC 2500 Denali with the duramax. I test drove one at a local lot and was not pleased with the acceleration off the line. It went through the first 3 gears before you traveled 100 yards. I realize it not a race truck; however, my brother has a 2016 F250 with the 6.7 and it performed a lot quicker. Could it have been the rear end that it was equipped it that made it change so quick? other than that I loved the truck.
Thanks,
Scott

I believe the Duramax HD is using a 3:73 rear which is also the rear end gearing used in the standard 1500. I too noticed this difference when test driving one a few months ago and was told it was due to the "adaptive learning" capabilities of the Allison tranny. Maybe someone that actually owns/tows with one can chime in and enlighten us both?

I was told that it needs break in time. I did look at the 2500HD but the price difference and taxes here in Canada was only 1K more for 3500HD. My 3500HD Duramax has about 1000 miles on it. its get better as I put more mileage on it. I used to have a 2015 1500 Sierra! What a big difference, just in stability alone. Where I live, I am surrounded by the Rockies. Now I have no fear of hills anymore.
This youtube video help me to gether info, hope it help you too

I own this 2018 330RSTS and tow with a 3/4 ton. Half ton is to small. When I'm fully loaded with gear and water its a lot of weight. Buy a bigger pickup or look at a smaller trailer. When I bought my 2015 the price difference between a 1500 and 2500 was less then 1k.

I put mine on a cat scale and the results are in. I'm at 12,227 with the Fresh tanks full of water and gear in the 2018 330RSTS.
We love the 2018 330RSTS. We added two bar stools with backs to sit at the center island they are great to have. If the bugs are to bad outdoors or raining we sit inside light the fireplace put some music on and enjoy. When traveling on the road we use bungee cords and sit next to the kitchen table and attach to the center post of the table and rap a towel around each stool so not to damage the table.

If I filled my fresh water tank, I would be exceeding the combined weight (yellow sticker) of 11,250# on my 2017 because my loaded weight without anything in the tanks is 11,086#. Yet another reason I would never try to pull my 330RSTS with a half ton because I need every extra pound of cargo capacity of my 2500HD to make up for the woefully low cargo capacity of my 330RSTS. Did Jayco finally wake up and substantially increase the combined weight ratings on the 2018 Eagle TT's??? Just curious.

So why not look at the F250 if that was your experience?

Yep I would agree with a 3/4 up I think that you will feel a little safer for that long of trailer.
