My name is Neng from Long Island ny,looking to purchase a new jayco travel trailer. Never own a camper before. Some of the must have's are outdoor kitchen, outdoor entrance to bathroom power awning, bunk beds . Anyone recommend a dealer in ny, I was quoted 28.5 for a 25bhs white hawk 2017 which I think is high m and mid 20s for the jay flight. 3-5k off Msrp. The camper will be mostly for my wife and our 1yo daughter. Tow vehicle is a 2015 tundra double cab 5.7 v8. Also I was told a interest rate of 5.0, I'm a tier 1 credit score. Any help would be great before I decide.

You should pay somewhere around 30% off MSRP.
Go on rvt.com and find the cheapest offer in your general geographic area, and your dealer should price match.

Also, Jayflight 27BHS is a great model, and if you pack carefully, you would probably be able to tow it. But it doesn't have the bathroom entrance. I think finding an outdoor kitchen and a bathroom entrance will be a challenge.

Im not sure if I want to tow close to my limit with my wife n daughter in the truck. I have it narrow down to the 25bhs 27bhs and a 25bh jay feather. I have never tow anything bigger than a pop up. Unless the 2ft difference is not

We just purchased the jay Flight SLX 284bh with the outdoor kitchen. It only ways 6300lbs and compared to the'26bh the bigger shower and tv location tipped the scales to the 284bh

25-30% off MSRP is a often touted rule of thumb. In the end, it is the deal that makes be able to sleep best at night. Some enjoy the local dealer, others search far and wide for the best deal. Check out RV Trader and see if there are any models you like close to your price point and drive range.
Contact your local Credit Union, find out what their rate would be if you choose them. Then have the dealer meet it or beat it.
25BHS is a neat model, choose the one you like. We prefer the smallest one that fits our needs, after all we are going for the great outdoors.
Oh... and greetings

Took another trip to my local dealer, he's 4k more than my online quote. Basically he say if I gt a jayco elsewhere he wont perform warranty work lol. 27bhs thermal, elite, customer package. Hide a way bed, Goodyear tire ladder shades and I upgrade to the fiberglass frame. Anything else I should add?

If it were me, I'd buy elsewhere then...just based on his statement about not servicing your RV. Jayco has been known to authorize non-selling Jayco dealers to complete warranty work. If you want to go with the local dealer, see if he's willing to meet you half way? Then you both might be happy with the deal.

We had a quote from RV Direct and our local dealer matched the price except what RV Direct would charge for delivery. That way we were both happy and service can be done at our local dealer.
As far as financing: Check around at local banks and credit unions for an RV rate. We are also a Tier 1. We went in with a preapproved quote from Essex (through Good Sam) and a local bank matched the rate through the dealer when we sat down about financing. Don't just go by what rate the dealer says. Have all your paperwork in hand before you go in.
Hope this helps.

Ok thanks for the replies. I have a Honda 2000 watt generator, I know its a small unit but can it power the 27bhs or if possible just some individual appliances?

Welcome from long island. I have a 2017 jay feather 25bh that we purchased in Sept. It is a great floorplan for us and the outside kitchen is great. I know which dealer told you that about the warranty. He told me the same and he would not budge on price either. I bought a camper from them in the past too. I understand where he is coming from. With that being said, we bought ours at whitehorse rv in NJ. Great prices and a large inventory so you can really check out many different floorplans. We were dead set on the WH 25bhs and signed the papers for the jay feather.

Wonderful sentiment! I like a 15% safety margin, myself.

Can anyone explain how the interest works? I'll be financing for 10yrs and it'll be 7k in interest. If I pay it off in 5 yes will that cut the interest in half if I double my payment?

Yep, of course it will. The interest is usually compounded daily (or monthlyon some of these) and that 7K you quoted is if you don't make extra payments, and only pay the minimum every month. Hard so say off the top of my head if you'll save 'exactly half' of your interest by making double payments, you might save even more than that. Run the numbers here with your proposed loan and extra payments.
Early Payoff Calculator
Making a lump sum, extra payment earlier in the loan will have the biggest impact... bigger than making double payments for example (assuming the same amount of money is spent in both cases, you'll save more on interest by making bigger payments earlier in the loan term)
Also keep in mind, *most* of us write off the interest paid on our taxes as a fully functional camper meets the definition of a second home under IRS regulations. It's not a lot, but I'll take it. Granted, paying the loan off sooner is FAR better than any deduction you might get by not doing so.

I may be misunderstanding something here, and, if so, forgive me. But what I'm reading has me worried for you and your pocketbook.
After a quick online search I find an MSRP of $28,000 for one of those 25 BHS rigs, not accounting for options. I'm also seeing prices higher, 33,000, but let's just use 28,000 and adjust if and where necessary.
Say you buy that for $19,600, which is 70% of the MSRP. For easy figuring, let's say you borrow $20,000. The interest rate with decent credit should be around 4.5%. A 10 year loan would run about $207, and for 5 years, about $373. That's $4840 interest for the 10 year and about $2380 for the 5 year loan. You'd save about $2460,
You asked about doubling your payment. The above savings would be somewhat less because your payments for a ten year loan would include more interest and less principle than a straight five year loan. Still, you'd save a decent amount of money.
Now, if you've been told you'd save $5000 I'm seeing RED FLAGS!!! Slow down. What interest rate are you being quoted? Is your credit in the tank? If so, don't buy a trailer until you get that straightened out.
But my guess is, you are being taken for a ride and being seen as a sucker by the dealer. First clue is talking you into settling for 5% off MSRP. 2nd clue is that enormous interest rate that would result in a $5,000 savings by doubling your payment.
I'd urge you to talk to someone you trust, maybe a co-worker, or maybe you have a real accountant doing your taxes, not some tax preparation company's guy that took a few-week course in preparing simple tax returns.
There's a whole bunch of campers out there. You can let this one get away while you get your ducks line up.

Im getting 30% off msrp on a camper that's 32k for 24k OTD. Rate of 5.9 with 10% down. So finance 22k after 10yrs im looking at 29k. Might not be the best deal but it's something I'm happy with and easily beats my local dealer.
27bhs fberglass exterior, thermal, elite package. Sanicon waste, wdh and some other options as well

I tried to do a little number crunching too, based on the following assumptions:
Loan term 144 Months
Remaining 144 Months
Loan Amount - 28.5K
Annual interest rate 5%
Current payment $263.59 per month
Prepayment amount $200.00 per month <- this isn't quite making double payments)
Prepayment shortens loan by 6 years
Prepayment savings $4,964.47
That gets him pretty close to saving 5K
I agree that trailer doesn't sound like a great deal in any event. 5% APR isn't that bad in today's market... rates are definitely going up.

Thanks for all the replies. Im sure if i wait it out longer I could save another 1000 bucks but it's camping season and creating memories is more important to me imo. There's always a better deal out there
