New Member with roof question

Hi to everyone. Im new to this site and new to travel trailer camping but not new to camping in general. I have owned a few pop up campers in the past but have never owned a travel trailer. I now own a 2000 jayco qwest 240a that I bought last october and have yet to actually use but Im looking forward to the upcoming year.
I have a question for you seasoned campers regarding the roof I have been told that this trailer has a rubber roof and was told by the local jayco dealer that the life span of the roof is about 12 years or so is this true?
I was also woundering if there is anything that I should do to the roof to increase its life span?
Im sure being a newbe that I will be back to ask more questions of you fine folks

The roof life expectancy is dependent on several factors, how it was cared or not cared for, what type of environment it was subjected to (direct sun, tree sap, pollutants, etc.). Some of the rubber roofs have a white outer layer, then a black layer. The white layer will eventually wear off exposing the black. There are several roof coatings on the market, I have never used one so can not comment on that. I have read where these roofs can last 20+ years with the proper care. I would get up on a ladder and inspect the roof to see its condition, or get someone to do it if you are not comfortable climbing up there. In all candor, the roof should be inspected before the purchase to check for possible leaks, soft spots, the condition of the sealants and vents, and other possible problems.

Welcome Daves09Sierra... Crabman made all valid points. If you're not comfortable with determining the condition, hire someone to look it over for you. You'll probably find that all you need is a good cleaning and perhaps some sealant around any cracks, etc.

All that the roof people say is to keep it clean and inspect it regurlarly. Our old Prowler, (bought new in 1993) still has the original roof with no leaks or damage. I was only on it once to replace a vent cover.
