Although I tow the Eagle equivalent with a 1 ton Diesel, I wouldn't hesitate to tow with a heavy 1/2 if properly equipped. We have a friend with a Tahoe who only sticks to the Seattle area, so no mountain grades and generally slower speeds. He does fine. We tend to go out several states so we like having the extra weight and capacity up front. The new Nissan Titan with the 5L Cummins may be a game changer for 1/2 ton segment. But for the OP, it will be obvious if the specs and characteristics of the TV is up to par.

2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Crew Cab towing a 2015 28 BHBE..... NO major issues til I listened to someone on this site and "suggest" I switch out factory shocks with a good pair of gas shocks with coil overs....BZZZT worse move I ever made. Next week I'm switching back to OEM shocks with a set of Timbrens. When I had the factor set up with a WD hitch the only time I had an issue is when it was real windy out or some gear jammer was flying by me doing 75+ mph .... In our first season with it I've towed through Maine and down into Joisey and Pennsylvania, pulled Matamoras portion of I-84 @ 65mph
now thats not shabby at all !!!

New owners of a 2016 28BHBE

We received some bad news yesterday after following up on our trailer build. The dealer said Jayco has push our delivery date from Dec 21st to 1st week of Feb due to overwhelming demand. So much for our Christmas plans! Anyway, after much careful thought, we are now considering upgrading to an F-250. We're looking at a 2016 gasser with powerscoping mirrors and rear view camera. I think those options are a must for trailer towing. I'm wondering if we also need the Camper Package?

I have the F250 6.2 gasser and it will absolutely do the job but I will suggest air bags. The biggest disappointment for me has been the incredible amount of rear end "sag". Even with my WDH, it just wouldn't level out. Air bags helped quite a bit.

IOF... That probably means ours will be delayed. We just ordered ours 2 weeks ago and was hoping to have it by the 1st Week of Feb for my sons annual birthday camping trip, he will be 10.

As for the F250 6.2 I chose one when I had to upgrade and although I have not towed with it yet I am happy I got it, no worries for me now towing. The camper package is for Slide In bed campers but if you are ordering one at least get the extra helper springs or get a 350. If I had ordered I would have ordered a 350 SRW, price is not much more.

PNWDriver... What brand of Air Bags do you have. I have pretty much decided I want to add a set. I have been looking at the Air Lift brand.

Ice,

Sorry to hear the news on the 28!!! That's a bummer for sure!!!

As for the 250, what does the camper package add??? As mentioned, price a 350 srw if available also. Unless you are driving a ton of non-towing miles, go for the best gears available- 4.10's or whatever the lowest gearing is. This will give you the option down the road to step to an even bigger trailer if you want (same with the 350 over the 250).

Good luck on the possible new truck, and hope the 28 shows up soon!!!

I ordered the Air Lift 5000 off Amazon. I was abale to install them myself, although it took me all day with hand tools. The hardware kit took some sorting out because there's some parts that look similar but are actually one of a kind. I plan to add a on board compressor at a later date.

After a 7 week delay, we finally heard back from the dealership and our rig will be coming off the line on 2/11. We also received a VIN # for confirmation. We will be towing it with our F-150 knowing we will soon be in the market for an F-250.

Nice...

I was told our 28BHBE will come off the line on 2/18, not to far behind yours. Gotta order a new Equalizer Hitch, I let my 1000lb Hitch go with my last trailer. Will go with a 1200 this time as well still mulling over the Air Bags, most likely will get them and believe I will go with the Firestones as I like how they mount on the Axle versus the snubber pad which is how the Air Lifts mount.

Since it did not make it in time for our Feb 12th Camping trip I found a small local camper rental company who had a '14 Jayco Swift 287BHSW (same floor plan as the 28BHBE) that I could rent and we have it reserved so at least we will get to test run the floor plan.

Like you we are anxiously awaiting ours, with trips planned each month going forward.

We're also going with an Equalizer 1200 lb. I'm curious to find out why you will be adding air bags on your F-250 as I imagine you'd be ok with it? My in-laws have a 32RLDS which is a heavier rig towed by their F-250 fully loaded and they don't seem to be sagging at all.

We too had a trip planned (next weekend) assuming we'd have our rig before by now. We're postponing it for March 10th for our maiden voyage.

Let's cross our fingers no major mid-west snow storms the next couple weeks!

28BHBE sags our 1 ton a little. Not enough to add bags but anything more and I probably would to avoid blinding others at night with the headlights. This rig has a pretty heavy tongue load for its size really. If nothing else, it'll soften up some of the bounce. I'll probably be installing some for the heck of it since I already have the compressor and tank.

The F250's are notorious for the rear sagging, if I could have found a F350 with the Color / Options I got I would have gotten it or of had the time to order one I would have done so. I am still trying to decide what to do... Taller blocks (From F350) and Air Bags or Timbrens or Air Bags only.

I better figure it out soon as I heard from the dealer our date moved up to 2/16.

Good on the move up date. I think you'd be fine with air bags really.

ICE, when did you originally put your order in for the rig? Placed mine last month and was hoping to get it by April.

My family is considering purchasing a 28 BHBE and I have a question. Does the new unit have "Sway Command" as a standard option? Jayco's webpage states, "A Jayco Exclusive, Sway Command prep is now standard on ALL JAYCO TRAVEL TRAILERS!" (this applies to all TT manufactured in or after Jan. 2016)

However, it is still listed as a $375 option. So...is it standard or not? Does the above statement just mean that it's wired for "Sway Command?"

Just prepped for it. NOT standard.

There is a thread on this topic. Opinions seem split on whether or not it is worth the extra expenditure. Most agree it is to augment a proper sway control solution, not replace it.
