New to us - 2017 Jay Flight SLX 264BHW

Just wanted to say hello!

Grew up with my parents having had a Jayco pop-up tent trailer. As an adult have had 32' Slide-out travel trailer, slide in truck campers and recently sold that off and found a great deal on this guy and picked it up for my wife and two young boys.

Have yet to take it out, have a bunch of stuff on order for needed maintenance stuff. But happy to have a Jayco! Planning on adding a 200-400W Solar setup, and some other goodies!

But first immediate thing is going to be figuring out how to add additional support for the queen bed and the flimsy plywood it sits on!

Thanks for the link, I think I will split the storage underneath while adding the extra support for cross bracing. Looked like a good use of the space.

Got looking at the trailer a bit more today. Looks like the PO slapped on some 205 75 14 range C tires, sticker calls out for load range D.

I know they came with Goodyear Endurance tires (111.66 off Amazon), has anyone had any luck with something else? I see Carlisle Radial Trail HD, Trailer King ST, Hankook Optimo and some others for half the price. Would you guys just stick with the Endurance and call it good?

Both the Goodyear and Carlisle's are good brands. I can't comment on the others.

Very cool, we purchased ours used and I think we are slowly finding why it was such a good deal, lots of neglect once I started really cleaning / getting into it. Either way love the floor plan and i'll get it to where the wife and I want it!

I would stick with tires made in the USA.

We have the same bed frame and has been ok for now.
In the future I'm going to add a hinge.

I'm pretty sure that trailer comes with Load Range C tires from the factory. Going to Load Range D is an upgrade, and a worthwhile one at that. I went with the Endurance D and am very happy with it.

I thought the same thing, but the spare on the back which looks brand new is a load range D. The GVWR is 7500lbs, which with C rated tires gives me less than 7k.

Ordered up the Goodyear Endurance in load range D, should be here in a week or two.

Maybe because they are 14in wheels they require the LR D? My wheels are 15in and it came with LR C from the factory. GVWR is also 7500lbs on mine.

Either way, you made the right choice by going with LR D Endurance. You can actually feel it towing better. Stiffer sidewall, less bouncing and flexing, less rolling resistance, more stable.

Well got after it this weekend and upgraded the factory queen bed support. Replaced the cheap 1/4" plywood with some 5/8", built the poney wall to divide the pass through and under bed storage. Used 2x2 wood under the new sheating to rest across the new wall so there is Zero sag in the middle. I did have to take down their header and then re-attach it, kinda crazy how flimsy that thing felt. Oh and used 6" gate hinges to attach at the top. I plan on adding some spring shocks to assist with lifting.

Very nice work on the bed reinforcement. I used 1.5 inch Aluminum angle attached to the stock wood strips, built a reinforcement frame (2x2) where you put the wall. We already had lift cylinders, but I reinforced the frame around them on the bottom also. I added more hinges to the stock ones. I used the metal and instead of wood to save weight. I’m pretty close to being maxed out on the truck. Jay.

All you need now is a bed lift kit.

Nice support wall ... I did the same and also put 1x2 runs along the outer perimeter of the bed to further reduce flexing. The rails also provide more of a handle to grip and raise the bed

What we did is use blocks to support 2 x 4 and a beam across from underneath. I never really felt safe sleeping on a slide out. It always tilted. But the 2x4 worked until we got the trailer. No slide outs but I love my trailer. I have added a lot of personal touches to it including some things from my mothers estate after she passed. So even though she is now passed on a lot her things are in the trailer. So yes, its her retirement and mine. Can't wait to start traveling in our retirement. Happy trails.

Welcome from North East PA.
I purchased a 2019 264BH in August. Put a 2 x 4 brace under the bed and left the area open so I could access under the bed or thru the storage side doors.
I just finished installing 2 Renogy 160 watt flexible solar panels on the roof and I am very pleased with the results!
Good luck!
