New water pump sucking air

I replaced the pump with an early identical one and it is pulling more air than water. How can I bleed the lines so I can get water flowing again?

#2. When plugged into street water I get a drip behind the port. I recently replaced all the plastic ports in that side of the trailer. The new street water port is metal, there is a metal union which attaches to a plastic adapter before it plugs into the plastic hard line. It is dripping at that joint...where you screw the hard line into the plastic adapter.

I tried Teflon tape to no avail. Not sure what to do next.

If it's sucking air then "bleeding the lines" isn't the solution. Either you don't have enough water in the tank. You have your winterization valve open so it's sucking air through that. You have your hot water bypass valves set incorrectly or you have the lines not properly attached when you installed the new pump. Perhaps the intake line has a hole in it or it isn't tight.

Winter valves were double cehcked. Hot water bypass...assume you are referring to the valve under the counter? Not anything outside?

And how does one find a hole in those lines? I replaced the pump thinking it was toast but the water situation got worse.

If you did not have a problem before you changed the pump than odds are it is the pump (cracked, bad out of box, etc. ) or one of the connections you made is not air tight.

Try taking off any screw on connections. Consider using teflon tape on threads before reattaching. If it is a clamp on connection try tightening the connection, re-doing it as needed. You can also try silicon sealant on the connections with a couple days to let it fully set up. Dicor is a lot faster but really hard to get off.

I did discover a leak behind the street water so I picked up parts to fix that first. For the pump I will tape the threads.

Sucking doesn't have anything to do with the pressure side.
Use your winterizing suction hose and stick it in a gallon bottle of water.
You might first fill the hose with a funnel and poor water in it.
Let someone operate the switch for you.

Finally had it looked at. The setup has a valve and tube to siphon winterizing fluid. That valve was not sealing and letting air in. Should have figured it out....

I hate plumbing for a dozen different reasons. From a leaking hot faucet on a new sink/faucet installation to a frozen water pump last winter, I finally got them all fixed. In a few days we are heading south and the past problems have left me apprehensive. Will have my fingers crossed and a flashlite in hand when I charge the system and pressure everything for the first time. I learned the hard way to check everything quickly so if there is a leak you can shut things down before you flood the camper.

Next spring if you find a freeze cracked head on your water pump, you can replace the plastic head for less than $20. Easy repair.

Quick field fix for that is to jam a wine cork [may have to do a little carving] in the of the winterizing tube to seal it until you can replace the leaking valve.
