Newbie Questions

We are in the final negotiations on our 1st trailer, 2017 Jayco 264BHW and we have some options to make decisions on and need help:

Is the back up camera worth it at an install rate of $855, this is our 1st trailer so 30feet of trailer scares me not having it.(only works when in Reverse)

We have an option between the 13k AC for almost $2k less about 4 hours away vs one with the 15k AC locally. Is it worth it? We live in texas so it does get HOT here

Lastly, we are torn on the extended warranty being brand new is it worth $2100

Thanks to anyone that can share some advice!

I put a the camera in myself, $250 for the kit. And it was the observation/back-up camera so I can use as a rear view mirror as well. Really not that difficult, save yourself the $$ and do it yourself.

Negotiated to have the 15,000 BTU added as part of the deal, in Texas as well, see if the dealer will swap out the 13 for a 15.

I kicked in for the ext warranty, piece of mind goes a long way with me.

Congratulations on your future purchase!

I would not spend $855 on a camera, take it slow and use a spotter. Being in TX I would assume your will need all the A/C you can get for that summer heat. And don't waste your money on an extended warranty, not worth it, its only the dealer and warranty company that make out. Others have said put that money in a bank account and use if for any repairs after the two year warranty is up, most major warranty issues will happen in the first two years so your covered.

No on back up camera (install yourself)
Yes on 15K AC ($2,000 seems steep, try to negotiate to $1,000)
No on extended warrenty

Hey, just noticed you are in McKinney, I'm in Frisco (just west of Custer off Eldorado). Lived in McKinney for 11 years. If you need help with anything, let me know, I'd be happy to help. [emoji106]

Yes we are have lived in McKinney since 2001, not the same McKinney as it once was. Seems we have a lot of us campers here had a hard time finding storage, everyone was full. Going to end up using Stonebridge Storage off Custer behind the golf course and on waitlist for those closer and cheaper to us lol

That's the overall difference in cost but that one is in Austin so we would have to have it delivered. I am glad I posted as I was telling my husband the 13k would be fine but he keeps saying stick with the 15k

Check these guys out for storage. I get to store mine for free at a buddy's place, but if I had to pay, I'd use them.

TY Neil, we want it as close to our house as possible. We fear we won't use it as often if it is not convenient! Just put in my final offer so as long as they accept we will be on our way to a whole new camping world!

I think the point has been made to skip the camera. $855 is a lot to get something you can't even use while driving. If you want to get an idea of what it takes to do it yourself there's a few threads here that show how, you can start with mine if you'd like - http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...23b-35065.html

X2. Except I'd not want to pay more than 500 for the 15k over the 13,500 Btu unit. Fight them on that one.

Agree with this completely. The 15k AC is to me a must have in the 30' trailer. The lesser unit will struggle and on hot days it's probably going to fall short.

Newbie Questions

Our dealer price matched Amazon on the camera, and installed for free. And it's the full time one, not reverse only. $299 was worth it to me to basically have a rearview mirror again. Furrion brand.

No on the warranty.

Edit: looks like it's even cheaper now.

If you don't want the hassle of installing a wired system, try:

Furrion FOS48TAPK-BL Wireless High-Speed RV Observation System with Mounting Bracket

Good wireless camera. Can be found at lower price on Amazon. Works great for back-up and rear view observation.

Extended warranty is a waste of money. You have a 2 year warranty with a Jayco and unless you have a "Uber Dealer" who can fix your TT as soon as you call him, you'll probably handle most of the minor issues yourself.

Thank you

Thank you everyone so much for your feedback, it helped us put in our final offer last night!!! The price difference between the two was $2K overall BUT the only difference was the 13K vs 15K, the other dealer in Austin started with a better price but had the 13K and did not have the Goodyear package, so they agreed to throw in the GY package but can't do anything about upgrading to 15K so we worked a very good deal I must say on the local trailer, as long as they accept we will move forward today. We took off the warranty and the back up camera!!!

Looks like your making a good deal, I hope you got close to 30% off MSRP for your final price.
