Noise when backing up?

My purchase of 2013 Jayco Feather 23M included an Anderson distribution hitch.
Lots of creacking and cracking noise when I back into my lot; thought maybe i should disconnect before backing, then it had the same sounds, only not as ntense, they sounded like coming from axles. Is this normal? The guy i bought from said you don't have to disconnect it before backing in. One place on youtube said you should be worried if you dont have this noise when backing up...another person said I shouldn't have this noise.
Help and "why" would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure the noise is from the hitch? Trailer leaf springs and shackles could be what you are hearing, especially if you are maneuvering the trailer when backing into your lot.

If you can, see if you can have a friend back your trailer while you listen to try to find if the hitch or springs is making the noise.

FWIW, we’ve had ours for a year (six trips) and haven’t had any noise problems. In fact one of the selling points was the absence of noise compared to conventional WDHs.

I leave my Anderson WDH connected and haven't heard any noise. My wife assists in backing up and if there was a noise she would have let me know big time!

You need to have someone outside to pin down where the noise is coming from, that will help a great deal pinning the problem down. ..... just make sure you don't back over them.

True. That makes an entirely different noise.

I already make creaking and cracking noises without getting run over!

Grease

My TT hitch used to make the loud screeching noise until I put high-temp grease on the ball. It significantly reduced the noise when backing up. Just make sure you don't get the grease on your hands/clothes when working around it.

You don’t want to put grease on the Andersen WDH, though. It works differently.

We had an Andersen hitch when we had our 27DSRL. We never disconnected it when backing and never had any noises from it. That was part of the beauty of it. Most of the noises we heard came from the TT.
