Noticed the breakaway split
Noticed the breakaway split 2007 Jay Feather 19F. The metal wire that attached to the tow vehicle has split into two pieces. Are replacement parts available? I would think this is a universal type of part, one fit several different trailers. Mike Dickinson

Break-away cable
Not sure of the trailer end part. The truck end is a loop. Will take pics and post later. Mike Dickinson

Break-away Switch
OK Went out to the trailer this morning. Looks like I will need a complete system. The cable is split, and is stuck. Looks like a easy fix (hopefully). Pictures are attached Thanks Mike Dickinson

I also like the design of the Fastway break-away cable. My switch broke (under warranty) so I decided right then to carry a complete spare switch and cable.

Most breakaway switches are not water proof, and as such need to be lubricated every so often to prevent them from becoming stuck and impossible to activate. The switch is simply an Off/On switch that puts the 12 volts from the battery to the brakes when the plunger is pulled out. It should never be removed for any length of time because it will cause the magnets in the drums to overheat, as well as run down the batteries.

We have the Fastway coiled cable also. They really work well and are available at tons of places. We bought the 4' version. The breakaway switch is an easy fix.

The cable should never break. Neither should the plastic plunger that the activates the switch. It helps if you spray the plunger with silicone spray every couple of months to prevent it from becoming impossible to remove.

they break when they either drag the ground for several miles or get caught up in the hitch jack knifing.

If that's the case, then they are not connected properly will not work as designed.

Those are also available at your local Napa auto parts store. The cable and pin are part# 89121. Or you can get a new switch and cable, part# 89102. If your local Napa counterman has a hard time finding trailer brake parts, tell them to look in the electric trailer brake catalog. If they don't have a paper hard copy, they can look in the E-catalog rack.
