One more thing to check

Bought our 2021 33RBTS new in 2022. Never thought of checking it the tire pressure as all looked well inflated. Had it out a few weeks ago for the first trip this year. Taking it out on a little longer trip this weekend and figured I’d check the air. Spare was about 68 psig. No problem did not add any. Three of the tires were at about 73. No problem. The last one was 104 psig. Could not believe the factory or dealer would do that. These are Goodyear with a max rating at 80 psig.

Were all tires cold, not on the road yet? Was the Ober inflated one in direct sun?

All tires cold in the shade, in the RV port.

Tire pressure is something I check prior to every trip as part of my pre-trip inspection. That includes prior to leaving for the return trip home. I will not leave my driveway without knowing my pressures. They are also monitored continuously during a trip with my TPMS.

X2, The TPMS is your best friend. Easiest way to prevent blowouts, other than nails or debris damage. On our truck tires are always at the max 80PSI when towing, as well as the camper tires at 80PSI.

Checking and monitoring tire pressures and adjusting them to specs when cold is a good habit to develop to reduce the chance of tire failure.

Especially when someone adjusts them. I can't mention how many times my truck tires were rotated and the tire pressure not adjusted. I pull up to the shop door and manually check now before leaving the lot!

Same here. Never got underway without checking tire pressure. For my situation given my driveway is southern facing and in full sun pretty much all day, I would have to go out and adjust the tire pressures either at 10 o’clock at night or 6 o’clock in the morning. Any other time the sun would get at the tires.

Checking tire pressures and a visual inspection is on my pre-travel checklist. I always compare gauge pressures with my TPMS readout…truck an trailer. A checklist will never fail compared to a 70+ year memory!!

X2, I pulled out current tt, with low tire pressure once. Had the worse towing experience ever. Even little sports cars passing me would push us round badly. I now always check my tire pressure, and top off to max side wall noted pressure.

One other thought on pressure. I learned to adjust based on load. We are really loaded down for our summer trips with 6 to 8 weeks of extra clothes, food, wine, beer, mixers. Much different than a typical weekend load. My Goodyear dealer went over the inflation chart with me. Their standard is to inflate to the maximum for the trailer load but if you know you are under that adjust accordingly.

One more thing…..

Not only do I check the tire pressure (cold) prior to each trip, I also check the torque on the lug nuts. On multiple occasions I have found a lug nut that has backed off a bit.

Check every tire (including tow vehicle and truck/trailer spares) before EVERY trip for pressure, torque and visual inspection for cracking and wear.

I always check trailer tire pressure, cold, filled to max, and check lug nut torque. Also check Tahoe tire pressure, for our little rig 35 front, 40 rear.
Also have the trailer bearings repacked or replaced and brakes tested at shop every spring.
On the road I keep a tight eye on hub and tire temps.
So far 48,529 miles on GY Endurance tires, new every three years, without a problem.

When getting gas, I normally feel all the tires, TV and RV, ensuring none are hot.

If you get a TPMS system you can watch temps and pressures while driving down the road. One of the the best thing you can do for your TV and trailer.

Always check before every trip and NEVER trust that someone else did it correctly.

In addition to tire pressure I always check/torque the lug nuts to make sure none have loosened up. I carry a torque wrench on trips anyway so it’s just a few minutes extra to check…
