Ok so looking at the 2015 Jayco 314BHDS.

We really like this model I have asked about it on another thread.

Sooo.... I have one priced out without the Premier package, now I can live without the Remote for the Awning, lights, jacks.
But how important is the Gel Coat on the fiberglass?
Is the Gel Coat something I could spray or roll on myself?
How important are Thermal Pane window vs what the plain tinted ones? (obviously some R value with thermal pane)

I think I just need to relax and pull the trigger but I am having a heck of a time trying to find apples to apples.

The remotes are mostly fluff and will never be missed. Less to fiddle with IMO.

I am not familiar with fiberglass w/o gelcoat? are you sure you are describing the option. Could it be full body paint vs gelcoat?

Thermal panes are great if you camp in very hot or very cold climates. I do both and have never missed the cost or weight.

I am looking at a camper without the Premier Package. $1800 for this package.
Premier Package includes the following.
Gel-coat sidewalls, key fob remote, large bath power vent and raised-panel cabinet doors throughout

Going by Pegsmi98's post on the package, I would choose it. The better fan can help cool on those days where a bit of outside air would be all that is needed for comfort. DW would like the panels and I would like the gel coat. As far as applying a coat myself, I'm reminded of a financial guy who once told me when asked about futures investing, "If you have to ask, stay away!"

The remote? Just what I need, another remote.

The windows? We paid whatever for them and this camper still is little better than a tent when it comes to holding its temperature.

Get the package. Gel-coat tons easier to keep clean and looks great. Remote stuff worthless but it comes with the package. You will get it back when time to resale. You can live without it but it's like hub caps or no hub caps....plain steel wheels or aluminum...no power windows or power windows...etc etc

I have never heard of fiberglass not having a gel coat.. almost sounds like a dealer scam..
Now the 4 season or polar or glacier package is a must.. it will help keep the RV cooler in the summer and warmer in the off season.. I forgot to make sure this one had it when I bought and have been paying the price ever since...

Seann45 that is what I am thinking also, as I look at the pictures the trailer appears to be shiny. Also standard on all Eagles (per the jayco website), are climate shield and high gloss...

High gloss started in 2015. It is a high gloss, perfectly smooth like a boat. If you will do a quick inspection or normal fiberglass you can see the strands of fiber and its has a un-smooth texture. There is a huge difference and cost more to do.

Perfect thanks for that, to me the High Gloss sounds just fine. The "gel coat" in the premier package I think I would be ok without.

Get the Gel Coat. I opted for the high gloss at $150.00 option which was no brainer. The sides are much smoother then my 2011 was. Much better than trying to do yourself and if it fails you can claim under warranty.

I have the premier package and the remote is good for the slides and adjusting the level of the unit during setup as well as when you hitch up.

You don't have to pay full price for it. Negotiate and shop around, good luck.

It's the same thing..high gloss gel coat. Smooth and shinny like a boat.

That was my first thought, too. But apparently some lower end units don't gel coat, some offer it as an up to $2000 option. Don't know about Jayco, I thought they all were gel coated.

All the fiberglass RVs have a gel coat finish. The high gloss finish is just thicker and absolutey smooth. Rub your hand on your fiberglass. If it has a little texture then it's not high gloss. You can see the fibers when looking at it. High end motor homes have high gloss finishes and now Jayco is offering it on select models. It's eaiser to keep clean and more durable etc. with high gloss you can't see the fibers.

99 percent of RV's have high gloss doors. Look at your door fiberglass and compare to the RV siding. You will see a difference if not high gloss.

OK cool its just strange to me that the Standard is high gloss with an optional gel coat.... eit her way I think we will be really happy
