Outside Kitchen Vent

A generic question-

Does the flap on the outside kitchen vent open?
I looks as though it is hinged inside the weather cover.
Any assistance on how the outside hood works.
I would think it opens when the overhead stove vent is turned and venting outside. Doesn’t appear to open.

Thanks for replying

There are 2 tabs at the bottom on each side.
Gently pry them out and the flap will open. Close it before towing.

On mine I have to push up pretty hard on those 2 tabs and that frees the flap.

Thanks, for the confirmation
I’ve seen the tabs and gently tried pulling the tabs outward to open the flap. I may have to do a little more of the gently.
Thanks again

x2 - I keep meaning to see if there is a replacement that I can open from inside. I am short and depending on how we are leveled I have to stand on something to open/close.

What bad can happen if it's not closed before travel?

It can vibrate when going down the road and possibly break off at the upper hinge tabs. I have forgotten mine many times and it has not broken but the old design was prone to disappearing when traveling if not locked down.
