Paint protection upgrade

We are taking delivery of a new Jay Flight next week with fiberglass siding. The dealership is offering a paint protection treatment for $1200.00. Comes with 5 year repair warranty. Paint protection supposedly helps with streaking, pine sap, chalking & fading.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of treatment is it worth the money?

Don't fall for that one, if you wax at most twice a year it look just like new in 5 years from now.
I have a 2010 fiberglass jayco 22' that I bought used 2 years ago and I wax twice a year and it does look new. I only cover the roof during the winter. The black streaks you get from the rain come right off and I use a liquid car wash soap, maybe the same one you use. Tree sap does not fall on the sides only the roof and that's why I just cover the roof when it's home. If you wax it,it won't chalk and you can't fade white but no matter what you do the decals do age some not much but some.
This is a 4 yr. old shine.

hello I used to work for a car stealership that offered a similar plan for the interior and exterior of cars and it was a total scam!!!! when the car was delivered it was simply waxed with a different wax prior to delivery and in turn you got the protection plan. The wax was no better than what they put on if you didn't buy the plan. If there was a "warranty" issue you were not dealing with the stealership you had to deal with the company that offered the warranty/protection plan and good luck with that!!! Like previously stated just wash and wax a few times a year and you will be good. tree sap is a killer and if it gets on any surface and not dealt with promptly there is no good fix on cars buffing it out is about the best you can do I imagine it would be the same with the trailer and when you buff a car the blemish disappears because in essence you sand off the clear coat in the effected area to make it look new and I am not sure if the fiberglass is clear coated. Avoid the scam and just wash and wax a few times a year. for some time I worked in the detailing department so I can speak from experience on the protection plan.

Id also be willing to bet the plan does not cover delamination either which scares me to death.

lol and one more thing, the stealership's offers these type of plans because they get a S**t load of commission/money from the company that offers these plans each and every time they swindle somebody into purchasing it!

Thanks for the input, I am a little fanatical about keeping stuff washed and waxed anyway so it sounds like this is the way to go. Our current aluminum sided camper is 9 years old and looks like new. I just was not sure about the fiberglass. It did seem like an exorbitant amount of money but some things are worth it. Sounds like this is not one of those things!

2 other choices..
1) a good carnuba wax twice a year ($1200.00 will pay for a kid to do that for years and years to come)
or
2) send me $1000.00 and I will have tinkerbell protect your RV ... (yeah that is a scam too LOL)

That offer may actually be worse than the over priced extended warranty plans. At least you get something for the money, even if it's more theory than fact.

You are right your TT looks great. We wash our TT nearly every time before we put it back in the our shop. We use a RV wash which may have a liquid wax in it.

And the best part of the wax process is that it gives you the time needed to inspect all the caulking necessary to keep your unit water tight.

For $1200 I would look at buying a steel carport and simply storing the RV under cover for its life (provided you have the room and don't mind the way they look). That will do a LOT more for longevity of your trailer than some "special wax" they apply.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall in a morning meeting to hear the pitch on giving the pitch for this profit pusher. I wonder if the finance guys have quotas. They seem to be the hard sellers of them.

Paint and fabric protection is a way to increase profit. Fabric protection is scotch guard and paint protection is a silicone based wax no better than a good name quality wax. Save your money.

This all reminds me of the undercoating option car dealers pushed. At least it was more than a spray can from Autozone!

Most exterior protections are POLYMERS not silicone and they penetrate much better than wax. A good dealer will provide it for around $500 and it provides better protection than wax. All you need to do is check the chemistry involved to see the difference.

I just purchased the 2015 Eagle 338RETS, dealer is trying to sell us the Xzilon coating for $1800. Seems crazy expensive and the reviews online for this product are mixed, but mostly negative.

Some people say when applied correctly Xzilon is great, a couple seemed like honest opinions from actual detail companies that the product does work, but most lean toward the negative and it being almost a scam. Its really hard to figure out if it's the product not working as advertised or if its the dealers not applying the product or doing it incorrectly.

I am opting NOT to have it done, too many bad claims out there. the best comment I read on this product was "if you want something done right, do it yourself." Amen to that! I am a clean freak with my vehicles anyway, so the new Eagle 338 will be getting a regular bath.

Sun fading is my worst fear, especially on the dark parts and dark brown front cap, any recommendations or products you all use to keep looking new? This rv will be setup and in the sun all summer long on our property, hence my concern. Thanks
