Parking camper between trips
When parking the camper between trips which could be between 2 weeks and possibly a month or so. Is it ok to leave slide out or to keep it in? We live in South Georgia, as in 1.5 hours north of Florida. No snow or anything. What are yalls opinions. New to the camping life. We have a 2016 Jayco White Hawk 23.

Between trips I leave my slide closed while in storage. Less chance of damage from weather (hail- slide roof not very robust), other RV's in storage, critters working their way through the perimeter wiper seals, sun UV, and uneven ground surfaces.

I park/store my Eagle Superlite in our yard with the slide in as well. Just safer that way.
BTW, we’re in SWGA, (Albany).

I leave my large slide open, but I store at home. Also leave it plugged up and fridge open. I have a slide topper on it and can pull in any time if severe weather is expected. I have opposing slides, so I can’t do much with both closed.

I'm located in Lee County just a county north. I do not have a carport for it yet but thinking about a 14' wide but possibly 30-32' in length bc I know I'll definitely be going to a 30' TT in a year or so. Learning from this new camper to me. Thanks for the inputs I was thinking the same about the sun and weather stripping and all.

I keep our tt at home and leveled. Mixed bag, sometimes I leave it open, sometimes closed.

Due to storage lot I have to leave slide closed. At home maybe a week prior to trip will park, level, connect to 30 amp shorepower, city water, and slide out. Full meal deal to ensure systems are all good.

If I'm away from my camper and it's not set up for camping, the slides are in. Even most of the time when it's in my driveway. Most of the time my rig is in storage away from my home, so of course, my slides are in when it's in storage.
If I were leaving it on a seasonal site or similar, I would also prefer the slides to be in when I'm not there. That being said, my dad hasn't had the slide in on his 5er at the deer lease since he parked it there over a year ago. And he never put the slide in on the TT he had parked there before that for like 5 or 6 years. But that TT leaked like a colander...

At the CG we go to the most there is a section with seasonal units. Every one of them leaves their slides open all season. From what I've been able to tell most of them close them for the winter.

It is whatever you want to do. I cannot open slide when trailer is put in side yard. Now in the front side yard I can open. and normally do, cause I am in there cleaning or checking things our. Did close the slide yesterday cause I was waxing trailer.,

We have our RV at home and in between trips we have the 4 slides open . When we store it at home for the winter , I have it closed up and covered. I do have 50 amp connection out of my garage and leave it plugged in.

Why increase the surface that is going to be exposed to the weather?

Open or closed?
That depends upon the unit. Take a serious look at the openings around the slide. If you can see any daylight at all... Leave your side closed in storage. Little critters can get in and do considerable damage.
Personally, I lube the slide seals and close the unit. But then, I live in 110 degree heat, that will kill the seals quickly if exposed to that kind of sun.
Protects the seals...

I put baby powder on the seals so they don't stick and then close it up whenever we aren't using it.

I would contact Jayco to get their official recommendation. I leave mine closed to minimize exposure to the rubber seals.

Kind of off topic but I would go 18 wide on the carport if you have room. Especially if you want the slide out when inside. Also you will want to go at least 35 long if you plan to have a 30-32’ trailer. These things might cost a few hundred more up front but over the years of use you will be glad you went a few feet bigger.

When not going out for more than a week or so, slides will be in. This is parked on our r/v slab at home. When loading or cleaning or just putzin' around on it, the slide can and will be left out for weeks at a time. It is hooked up to shore power 24/7 and level.

If I'm putzing around it's out, when I finish I put in. It only takes a few secs.
By the way I have the same unit, I'll pm you.

We leave the kitchen slide open. But usually close the other 2. We use fridge year round. Just not ice or water.
Keep our liquor in it so kids don't find it mainly.

Often they are out at home for weeks or a month, other times closed. We are in and out a lot.
