Assuming the owner's manual for this model reads like mine, if you can see the back side of the monitor, there will be a production date on it. The life is supposed to be five years from that date.

I did some research at CW and Safe Alert and came up with the following:

"SAFE TRIP TIP
As you know many products on your RV have a replacement or maintenance schedule dependent on miles or years. This SAFE T.R.I.P. TIP pertains to your Carbon Monoxide, Propane and Smoke Alarms. The useful life of Carbon Monoxide Alarms is 5 years. Smoke Alarms have a 10 year useful life. Update to current technologies and revised UL design and operational standards. "

It seems that the sensors for CO are good for 5 years and the Propane units are good for 10 years.

My Eagle has seperate sensors, propane on the floor and CO on the ceiling. I can't check the CO detector until the slide goes and and that can't happen until the cover comes off in a month or two.

Glad I have seperate units.

I have the feeling those of us whose trailers were manufactured in late 2009/early 2010 and the ones with the short life units. Everything I've read indicates 5 years but clearly printed right on the unit is the Dec 2011 replace-by date.

Hopefully Jayco will come back with something useful tomorrow.

I just took mine out of the wall to see if there was a manufacture date on it. It is stamped on the back 7-31-2009. It also clearly says on the front to replace by Dec 2011.
It is the model 35-742 which is the combo CO/LP unit. The green light is still on indicating it is ok, but if you read the owners manual for this model it clearly says after the "replace by" date its accuracy is suspect.
I'm wondering where the 5 year life of this unit went on mine? If it was manufactured on 7-31-2009 per the stamp on the back, why is it's useful life only 29 months?
As I stated in an earlier post, I'm calling my dealer in the morning and will report back.

If that`s the case then Jayco to their credit installed fresh units but either the lifespan is not 5 years or the manufacturer of the sensor got the replace by date wrong.

So it looks like I'm a month late already.

Anyway, I haven't seen this discussed much before so I thought I'd ask if the rest of you do this regularly.
Here's the almost useless response I received from Jayco a few minutes ago:

"I understand the detectors do have a shelf life but I want to say that is based on constant use, if you call 800.383.0269 which is for MTI Industries they would be able to tell you for sure. I think they have to be replaced when they reach 5 years of age but MTI would be able to give you that information for sure."
