Poor Dinette Construction

We recently purchased a 2015 26 BHS. After removing the cushions we noticed that the board separating the sofa from the dinette has visible staples which are not connected to anything. The board appears flimsy. The cushion Velcro strips are not aligned properly with the seat back causing undue stress on the cushion fabric (I expect tears in the not too distant future). The screws associated with the latch on the seat storage access door are on the floor. In short, I'm disappointed with the quality of the dinette construction. If not on warranty, I would rebuild the seating area myself to a more rigid structure.

I know your pain / frustrations with poor workmanship! We have a 2015 Jayco 18 SRB and I had to completely replace / rebuild our queen sofa bed. It was on the verge of collapsing in the middle. Good luck!

We also had a problem already with our dinette where the staples came undone. Took it back to dealer and they fixed, but still will be a problem. Love our 2015 27RLS however and will work thru these problems.

I would not let the warranty stop me from beefing up the dinette seating if I so desired, but that`s just me. Many of us do mods right after we bring new units home.....

My dinette benches pulled apart at the staples. I cinched everything together with some drywall screws, and it's not coming apart any more. I even added some extra "framing" in the benches to make them even more solid.

Just got back from a three day trip to Port Aransas. Had 5 adults in my 23MB. My nephew sat down in the dinette and attempted to pull his feet under him. As he did this, it pushed apart the side board from the front and I could see the staples were not hitting anything. When we got home, I had to scew the pieces back together. I agree the dinette is very flimsily made. I think they wanted it so that you could remove the sections of 3/8" plywood and store stuff below the seats. I also had some problems with my doorway latch sticking. I don't think its possible to keep running back to your Jayco dealer to fix things. Jayco, is just like every other trailer manufacturer; they have to use small framing members to keep things light, but 2x2 pine splits when you drive screws in fast close to the ends. You just have to plan on doing some maintenance occasionally to keep it working.

There was another recent string about that same issue. Ironically, I had noticed mine had come apart about the same time as I was reading it. Rather than taking it to the dealer, I fixed it with clamps, glue and screws and feel confident the repair is done well.

It's part of the fun of owning these things. You look at this or that and think "Damn, I did a good job fixin' that!".

I reworked my dinette and bed when new. I heard things crack when I sat, so no choice. Rock solid now.
