Poor Workmanship

Hello,

I love Jayco travel trailers, I have owned several and always thought Jayco was just a little better than their competitors as far as the fit and finish.

I recently purchased a new 2022 Jay Flight 212qb because the floor plan fits my wife's and my needs.

Overall I'm happy with the unit but workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. I've already fixed several cosmetic things that in my opinion were not done properly. As an example see attached photo of the toilet water supply line. Hopefully Jayco quality control gets better. The prices of RV's have sky rocketed and consumers should get their money's worth.

No surprise there. RV workers do think, hammers are drills.

This is super common in the industry, the industry standard really.
I just go through and clean up all of the holes that I can access.
It's just the way it is.

Oftentimes the "were not done properly" are on serious tasks.

Check all end of line plumbing fixture connections as well as all breaker box pos/neg/grd screw connections.

X2. Also, the worker who stapled things like pantry shelves and cabinets was probably the one using the “hammer drill.” Check those staples and, better yet, reinforce your pantry shelves before they collapse. And if you haven’t reinforced your bed yet, plan on that, too. Plenty of threads here on JOF.

Elkhart/Middlebury/Goshen Indiana has NEVER been known for "quality".....no matter what the brochure of any manufacturer says be it Jayco, Forest River etc

It's easier with the proper drill and hole saw than it is to do this.

For sure. A hole saw with a pilot bit would be through in a few seconds.

Yep yep! I'd be embarrassed to consider that "my work"! A real carpenter would never do this. I can't imagine Jayco would just say, "Just make a hole with something here to feed it through. Gotta framing hammer?" And it passed inspection! So someone seen this as satisfactory and pushed it through, that's the sad part.

Knowing that many of the “craftsmen” who build our RV’s are Amish, is exactly why I laugh so hard when furniture stores try to sell “Amish” furniture for a premium. IMO it should be sold for a discount, not a premium.

I can only speak for our local Amish communities. Their workmanship is superb. Furniture stores may lie. I do find your comment repugnant.

I’m not saying that Amish furniture in general is bad, but my only point of reference I have with Amish furniture is my Jayco trailer, which is very poorly constructed.

I get that but don't blame the workers for company time management demands.
I have had furniture built by Amish and as independent contractors they have told me they will take the time they need to. Move anyone into a factory and the boss says how fast you will move.

The only way you can dissemble an Amish built barn is with a chainsaw. Their the only ones that can make you a pair of pot holders with apposing thumbs so you can grasp a hot pan correctly.

I just know that my 26BH made back in 2010 was well made and worth every penny of the $17k I paid back then. Remember the old Jayco ad where the guy would grab the underside of one of the hanging cabinets and hold himself up in the air? I guess I got one of those trailers. LOL

These days it's all about Thor (who bought Jayco in 2016) making as much profit as possible by cutting corners wherever they can. It's sad that there's such inconsistency in the quality of new RVs these days. But buyers new to the RV market don't understand that a warranty on a new RV means pretty much nothing in most cases.

The design is amazing to me. So many things are put together in a sloppy manner, yet they continue to function perfectly. My shades were not installed through the lined holes, they just shot two screws up there. Never have fallen. Plex goes through bigger than necessary holes without a leak. Every scrap of wood seems to find a spot to be used.

They manufacture to a price point and make it work.

It's this and the marketing "artists" who exploit the name Amish, as they exploit our corrupted minds and hearts that need to hear how wonderful we are through our material acquisitions. We're the ones who buy the corporate lies and their products. We want to be courted, wooed, and inticed by them. That's why chrome, gloss coats, endless streams of techno-gadgets, and all the eye candy are so effective.

It's sick, really. Material greed and a never ending quest to satiate the self are at the core of it, and I'm sad to report that it's in all of us. That's why it's so important to keep these dollhouse toys of ours in perspective. They are not quality and neither is 98% of all the other crud we purchase. Don't find your identity in your material goods and earthly riches. There's a beautiful place to store up your treasures where moth and rust do not destroy, Heaven. Be glad you're clothed and in your right mind. You and I are blessed far beyond what we deserve.

I have a 2016 28BHBE and have had no problems. Only issue in the build was the bathroom door was hung slightly crooked and when closed, one could see into the bathroom. That was fixed properly before we gave them any money for the trailer.
Where my plumbing passes thru the walls and floor, there are plastic rings the tubes pass thru.
