Power Converter fan

How warm does a converter have to get before the fan comes on?
I have a 30 amp converter in a 2011 165 sport. I never hear or see or feel the fan come on and the face of it gets pretty warm. The trailer has been hardly used. i understand there is a thermostat and it is powered by the 120v power. I'm thinking about removing the face plate to see if there is a connector unplugged. Any thoughts?

I would. Just be careful to remove power before opening it. If the fan is not working properly, it can shorten the life of the converter.

Mystery solved! Ok the fan only comes on when it is converting power to 12V. The fan has nothing to do when running you 110v stuff. Plus fan is " current driven" not heat sensed. So when the current being converted gets to a certain point the fan kicks on and its variable speed. I turned everything 12v on and the fan was humming.

We've had our Eagle for 3 years now and I have never heard the converter fan run. Now I know why, thanks.

Get the make and model of the converter and then you can check on the Mfg's web site for information, manuals on the convertor. Or for any other equipment in your RV.
