Power Tongue Jack / Truck Tailgate

Can a power tongue jack be rotated a quarter turn so the controls face either left or right? My truck tailgate hits the control head by about an inch or so. If I can turn the jack sideways it will clear. I see no reason why I can't, just want to be sure.

I saw a post here a little while ago that showed one turned a quarter turn to avoid the tailgate.

It makes no difference what way it faces.

If the bolt holes line up do it. The jack and trailer do not care. I would first try 180 degrees so up I can use the controls easily from ether side.

Every power tongue jack I've dealt with can be turned if need be to make clearance for the tailgate.

Just make sure to brace up the tongue before removing the bolts holding the jack to avoid a big surprise.

I simply loosened the motor head on mine and rotated it rather than rotate the entire jack. It has a hex set screw that when loose allows you to turn the motor head to different positions. Still didn't fix my problem. My tailgate still hits the jack shaft just a bit further down.

I'm looking to do the same. Hopefully it will give me what I need. What are you using for a TV?

Yeah that would definitely suck!

That's what I was thinking because I didn't feel any other holes drilled other than whats already there. Thanks for the reply.

I have an F150 Supercab. All i need is about 1" max to be able to lower my tailgate with the trailer hooked up. Not sure I will invest in a longer hitch or not, they are not cheap, but it is frustrating to not be able to lower my tailgate until I unhook the trailer.

I found this product advertised, but I've never actually see one to comment on how good it is:

Jack-E-Up

It's basically a bracket to turn the tongue jack into a removable one. But how strong is it, and can it be used with power jacks?

Rotated mine today

Had to drill 3 new holes in the bracket that's mounted on the Jack but now I can finally open my tailgate.

Not sure but I believe you are asking me where the screw is. The motor head on mine had a hex set screw in a collar at the bottom of the motor housing. Just loosened it a bit and the motor head can turn. Mine was on the truck when I loosened it. I don't know what sort of pressure is on the actual motor head, I doubt any but did not want to take a chance and loosen anything on the jack while it was supporting the trailer.

This is what I'm going to have to do. It is way too much of a pain in the ass not having access to my truck bed once I'm hooked up...

I'll likely end up doing something similar. With the motor head turned I can open the tailgate a bit more but still not all the way. I need just a little bit more room. Very frustrating. My jack stand is already mounted all the way to the rear of the plate it screws into so no room to drill new holes and move it back. I would need to weld a new plate onto the A frame of the trailer, or get a longer ball hitch for my truck. Oh well, it's on the list of mods for some day.
