Problems getting Hitch locked on to Camper correctly

My hitch on my Jayco Jayflight SLX8 28rls won’t securely lock on to the ball part of the hitch on my 2018 Chevrolet Colorado 4x4, (the Chin part) not sure what the correct name of this part is called, the part that should slide back and forth isn’t going down enough to get to the shank under the ball where it should lock.

Some hitches have a adjustment on the underside to accommodate a small variance in ball size. If so, back it off a touch and see if that helps.

Have you tried pulling the tow vehicle very slightly ahead after you have lowered the coupler onto the ball? That is what I have to do sometimes to get the latch to go into place. Sometimes the ball is just a tiny bit to far back and the latch does not have enough room to fall in place. Works every time for me.

Did you try pulling forward against the hitch slightly? Sometimes, if the ball is just a little too far back, you can't lock the coupler in place.

First you might try lubing the moving parts in the coupler assembly if they are rusty.

Also sometimes the ball will push the coupler up causing it to not slide over the ball.

Once the coupler slides over the ball (THIS MIGHT REQUIRE MOVING THE BALL FORWARD)it should slide over and the latch should seat.

Greasing the ball would help also.

I'm with the "moving the ball/TV forward slightly" crowd.

A little tip: When I'm hitching up, I usually have the trailer "reach" for the ball a little. Not directly over it. In this manner, the trailer will fall onto the ball and then settle backwards, placing the ball in the front most part of the trailer.

Then it should latch easily.

Did you raise the rear of lever up before trying to attach to ball? It needs to be open all the way, then place on ball and then latch it.

x2. I do this too.

I've seen guys pull a hammer out to get this to drop. If you need to do this, you are doing it wrong.
