I use my EMS 24/7/365 and have for the past 8 years. It hasn't taken off walking yet.
My hard wired unit has had to be replaced twice. The second time I went to the portable as my hard wire unit was buried and you could not see the trouble lights. Did not want to take the unit in to get it replaced after the second time, hence the portable.

Once you install the hard wired unit you have to leave it with the coach and buy a new one. Either way get a good one and never camp without surge protection.
Can you post a picture of how you did this?
Did you use an adapter to basically plug it in further up the line so that it isn't visible, then run the cable straight to shore power.
Genuinely curious. If your method is simple enough for a person that isn't mechanically inclined, I may go that route to have the best of both worlds.

Curious here too. I have the portable and like it. I know it's one more thing to do but not a big deal.
