Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C & Generator

I recently purchased a 2103 26BH and have also purchased a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C (hard wire) to install. I want to ensure the inside electrical parts are well protected. However I have heard/read that the EMS even in bypass will not wor or allow current to pass through when plugged into a generator. Something about a "open ground".

Can anyone provide me some insight/education as to the truth or untruth regarding this, and if true what would be a work around or fix to this problem? Thanks!

It depends on how your generator is wired. If it has a floating neutral as most do, it will signal an error on the EMS. (I have one genny that works normally and one that does not) David or one of our other more knowledgeable electrical guys will hopefully chime in. I believe you can make a pigtail or modify the generator that will allow it the run properly on the EMS.

BUT - good news is, you can always throw the bypass switch on the EMS and it will allow the generator to function properly. It will still protect against surges, but not hi/low voltage, etc.

I would give Progressive a call....., because I know when I installed my PI-EMS-LCHW30 there was separate instructions on how to install the PI-EMS in conjunction with the transfer box if a generator was being used (and shore power).

I don't have a generator, so I didn't spend any time reviewing the specific EMS instructions on the subject.
