Propane filling?

Hey everyone I noticed that the propane tanks on the front of my Jayflight 26BH are not normal size of a propane grill and I was wondering where I should go to get them filled when they run out. This might sound silly to some of the vets but im a noob and just wanted some good insight from everyone.

You need to find a place that actually will fill the tank and not trade the tank. Local campgrounds, farm stores like Southern States are good options. Check your local yellow pages.

They are 30# tanks on your trailer, the grill tanks are 20#. As for getting them filled, Gas stations, propane distributors, camp grounds, or anywhere you see a sign that says "propane refills here".

Propane filling?

^^^ this
Just make sure they charge you for only what they put in.
Had a new place open right down the road from me so i took my tank from the bbq to get it topped off. It was still half full but they charged me for a full tank. Well after a few choice words they refunded my money. Said they have a set price and no one brings one in to top off. Just ask before filling.

Uhaul is one of the cheapest places around to get a refill.

If your tanks have never been filled before, make sure that the person filling them for you knows that they are new empty tanks; the air in the empty tanks needs to be purged before final filling.

Has anyone considered having a spare tank? I would love to but not sure where I could attach it.

I keep an extra 20lb tank under the bed, I use it for the outside stove and lantern (although with the new LED strip purchased the lantern may be retired), I figure that if I run out on the main tanks the 20lb will keep me going a little while longer.

We've never run out of propane. Just make sure you only turn one on at a time then you'll know that at least one tank needs a refill.

Man, I hope I never camp next to you. You are sleeping on a bomb. OPD valves have been known to leak. I have one on my gas grill at home that is doing it, I'm careful to turn everything off at the grill and when this tank runs out, I'll have a new valve put in it.

Propane is heavier than air and will collect in low areas waiting for a spark. I've seen the result of propane explosion/fires on boats and ashore and you don't want to. In Texas, it's a state law that you can not bring a propane bottle into any public building even if you declare it to be empty. Improperly handled, it can be some bad juju. Get that bottle out from under your bed and outside.

I keep my extra 20 pounder for outdoor stove, lantern, etc. in the back of the truck when transporting.

Cheapest place I've found is a local propane shop (Ortega's). However, they are like what lx22f/c reported - flat rate of $12/20# tank. for that price I'll make sure my tank is empty!

I just picked up a used propane delivery truck and haul my TT with that. Haven't run out yet. Got a 1" line from the tanker to the trailer so I can run the fridge while towing.

I would agree with Bob. It's just too risky to keep it inside like that. It may not be leaking today, but how will you know if it starts to leak, until it is too late ? Used to work at Walter Reed Hospital many years ago, and witnessed a small medical oxygen tank lose its valve and take off like a rocket. Went through two walls before burying itself in a concrete wall. Imagine what that propane bottle would do if it leaked and a random spark, even from static electricity, were to occur. Scary. PLEASE get that potential bomb out of your trailer ASAP.

Not in my area. U-Haul is the most expensive.

Flying J generally has good prices for propane and fill by the pound.

I often bring a spare 20lb tank for the grill. I transport it in the bed of the truck secured in a carrier.

I do not to drive this into the ground but please get that tank out into the outside. I suspect you are storing the tank on its side also. These tanks are only to be used in the upright position as the pressure relief valve will not function when the tank is on its side. Always store and use the tank in its upright position.

Some of the new tanks don't have to be purged, if filled with in 6 months of the manufacturers date.

scooterdiva - I get by with just two tanks pretty easy. When ONE is used up I switch to the full one and then go get the empty one re-filled. I always use the same tank all the the time until it goes empty.

I will mark the one I am using with one of these snap on hooks to hang on the gas line of the tank I am using. Works out great great for me... Anything would work marking the gas line just find something that is easy to attach. Then when you get old like most of us on you will have to figure out is that hook for the full one or the empty one hehe....

The photo of the dual tanks also just reminded me of how I lock up my tanks. I will run a long shank pad lock down thru a hole I drilled thru the twist handle and the frame just below it. This just makes it harder for someone to get your tanks.

I don't know if I like the idea of carrying a larger propane tank around just for a spare or not. Sounds dangerous to me. However i always have a big supply of the 1LB canisters along in a action-packer container in the back of the truck all the time. Probably just as dangerous haha... AT least I keep them out of the direct sunlight...
