propane heater and water heater at 8000 feet

I am a relative newbie and will be going from 300 ft altitude Texas to 8000 ft altitude Red River NM this summer and I saw somewhere about need to make some change to propane burners for altitude. Is this necessary or will it be done automatically? I saw a word "de-rated" or was it "re-rated" for altitude.
Thanks.

I don’t know what model you have but I regularly camp at 8,000 feet to 10,000 feet in new messico and Colorado and I have never had a problem

I have also read in a number of place that various manufacturers state there could be issues with operating propane water heaters and furnaces at elevations higher that 5,000 feet. Depending on where you purchased the RV the dealer may have set-up the system for high elevation (purchased in Denver versus somewhere near sea level). I'd be ready to have the modification (I believe it's a change in the size of a gas feed orifice) done if you find you're at elevation and the unit won't fire up or won't remain fired up.

We live in Utah at about 4500 ft, so mine may have been adjusted at the dealer…
We have camped from sea level up to about 10500 without tissues.

I'd recommend looking for this subject in your trailer's owners manual. Mine identifies "deration" may be a requirement only when it comes to the water heater. It doesn't specify a specific altitude, just that "operation of the water heater at high altitudes may require debating." The implication of the need for deration in my manual is that the water heater may function, but will do so in a less efficient manner. "Pilot outage caused by burner lift-off or soothing from a yellow burner may occur, indicating the possibility of carbon monoxide. You may also notice a lack of efficiency in heating the water because of incomplete combustion of the burner at these higher altitudes. Consult with the local propane company, your dealer or the water heater manufacturer for proper derating of the water heater. Change out of the orifice (derating) should be done by the dealer or a qualified service agency."

We live in Illinois and purchased our Indiana made Jayco here. Have camped the Rockies up to 9,800 feet and crossed passes a lot higher. Never had a problem. Pilot on Fridge stayed lit and food cold, furnace and stove fine.

I have had issues before with the heater firing up above 9000ft when my propane tanks have been less then half full so full propane tanks can help. Remember that most manufacturers in the RV industry generally don't have tight tolerances engineered into their products that would increase their cost and for the most part are not needed, But that can also mean a furnace may work just fine at a lower elevation but not very well or at all at higher altitude.
