Propane hose removal question

So my dog chewed through my propane hose. I’ve got the end up by the tanks undone but it’s screwed into this manifold just behind the wheels. It looks like Jayco put red Loc Tite on it. How do you get this undone so I can replace the hose? Any help would be awesome!!

Looks like an open-end wrench of the correct size would be the appropriate tool. I doubt it's lock-tite. I'm guessing it's the gas equivalent to "plumber's dope". That's what my dad used to call it. You use it in place of yellow thread tape on gas fittings.

If you don't care whether the hose survives (as in you'll replace the whole thing, end-to-end), you might just cut the hose at the fitting. That'd make it easier to deal with I would think.

Yea I tried an open end wrench. I couldn’t even get the plug to move with a crescent wrench.

Cut the rest of the hose off then wrench the fitting.

If you have a tool to cut through the metal sleeve, yes. Get as close as possible to the actual nut. I'd use Channel-locks after you get the hose off.

I'll be monitoring this...a squirrel began chewing on mine up near the tanks and I have the same connection as you. Where did you buy the replacement hose?

I’m going to go to a local propane dealer. They said the can build me a new one. My father in law said they built him a new one. It was $1.75 per foot of hose plus the 2 fittings

So we cut the line just behind the fitting and tried a socket but no luck it just rounded the shoulders off. So now we’re waiting for a torch to heat up the fitting. So my worst fear is it is red Loctite. Why would Jayco use that over yellow tape?

Make sure you vent the gas lines completely or you may have bigger problems!

You should be able to unscrew it. It isn't easy but it will come loose. If you rounded it off then channel locks are probably your only solution. You should also be able to get the block off the frame so you will have a little more room to work. I had to replace ours on our 5th wheel and it wasn't easy but it came off. Putting the new one on won't be simple either. Be VERY careful if you use a torch!!! Good luck.

Strange. They don't look old and rusted either. Probably need more leverage. I know for a fact they unscrew. Stupid question, don't get mad at me. You ARE turning it in the right direction, correct?

We even tried a pipe wrench, no luck. Had to heat it up and it came out. Only problem is we had to heat it up so much it ruined 2 other hose ends. It was red loctite

Cut the hose and use a boxed end wrench. If they used red licktite this will require heating to 400 degrees to loosen. See if a boxed end will get it.

Now, why oh why would they use locktite?! Did the tech grab the wrong stuff? And they're tapered fittings, right? No reason to use any kind of thread compound other than yellow gas thread tape!

I could see them not using tape because it's slower. Same reason they don't use teflon tape on the plumbing; they use plumbers dope, it's faster. Faster=cheaper to them.
