Purchase Extended Warranty?

Hello everyone! We are getting ready to schedule pick up of our new 32 BHDS. We are trying to figure out whether to purchase the extended warranty. Usually we don't buy those, but wondering what everyone's thoughts are. I think we are leaning to at least having the fabric/paint protection. They are offering both for the price of one right now. Any thoughts on this would be really helpful. So excited to bring the new rig home!

Since you asked, do not buy an extended warranty from the dealer. If you decide to, keep in mind that the price of it is negotiable just like the price of the RV.

You can always wait until you get close to the end of the 2 year factory warranty and buy one from Good Sam or another reputable provider.

For more info, Google "rv extended warranties, worth it?"

Thank you! That is great advice. Would you still get the fabric/paint protection?

Only if it was cheap. Again, this is covered under the Jayco 2 year warranty. If it's gonna fade or fail, it should happen in that time frame.

We chose no extended warranties when we bought our 2015 WH.

Fabric/paint protection is a huge money maker for these dealers. If you feel your rig needs more protection, get some Scotchguard and car wax. They're not doing any more than that no matter what enticing wording they use in their ads.

Any warranty is based on average repairs....plus the selling unit (dealer) will make up to 50% on the sell... which means the average cost of repairs under a warranty is no more than 20 -25% of the selling price....as others have said, I would not feel it was a good purchase.

Those warranties are a scam in my opinion. Just take whatever you are thinking about spending on the warranty, and deposit it into your own interest bearing account.

Thank you all for your opinions. It is pretty much what we thought, but I wanted to check from others. Still not sure about paint/fabric protections since it protects against rips/tears, etc. Keep the comments and opinions coming.

What's the cost of the protection vs the cost of reupholstering a sofa?

Do you have kids and dogs?

Leather or fabric?

Dark color or light?

If warranties were a good deal for the average consumer then the warranty company would be out of business.

We have three boys and a dog. We are getting the mineral interior. We could choose from the mineral or tumbleweed. The mineral is a lighter microfiber and the tumbleweed is fabric.

Some advice on fabric, keep the blinds closed when parked. The sun will kill the fabric quicker than anything else.

Buy a blanket that matches the fabric, and keep that on there whenever you aren't showing off or having guests in it. You will have a clean, brand new looking sofa anytime you want.

The dealership tried to sell us the extended warranty last year on our 2016 Seismic Wave 310. It comes with a 2 year warranty and they wanted to sell us a "5 year warranty". I said so it'll be covered for 7 years, he said no, 5 years starts now.

<blank stare>

So you want to sell me a 3 year extended warranty? No thanks.

I called Good Sam and got the same warranty coverage with tire replacement (that alone made it worth it to me). 6 years full coverage and tire replacement for $2720 w/ $300 deductible - so I'm covered until May 2022

We actually did get the fabric warranty, but I didn't want to. My wife got suckered into the deal when I was using the restroom at the dealership. I pretty much think it's a scam as well. And be prepared for a semi-hard sell when you get to that phase.

They will probably have 4 or 5 different plans and they will do their best to wear you down as they describe in painful detail each and every one of them.

I am concerned about the exterior and the black streaks. Are we okay if we just wax every year and then scotchguard the inside ourselves? It looks like the fabric/paint protection will cost almost $1300. I just don't want to regret our decision.

The extended warranty doesn't cover most anything that normally goes bad. Only mechanical, i.e.-frame, rear door on toy hauler. etc. I. like a sucker purchased it on our 2014 Octane. To date, cracked skylight, roof liner pulling up on edges, couch seam pulled apart, brake pad bad (seal leak)etc. Nothing covered, the roof is going to cost me big bucks. Too bad I can't get the warranty money back to pay for it. Everything that can be called normal wear and tear (everything so far) is NOT covered.

In my opinion you will still get the black streaks even with the paint protection. The scotchgard is very simple to apply and very inexpensive. I would highly reccomend skipping both of those items. I would recommend for the outside a nonabrasive polymer based polish and I do my trailers exterior twice a year with the polish. In between polishing I use a polymer based "spray and wipe" detail spray to maintain the finish. You can buy LOTS of polish and detailer for $ 1,300.00.

3 M makes some great boat polish/ protectant.

That's what I use.......the more often you do it. The better it looks. Do a section at a time. You don't have to finish in one day.
