Question about emptying water

Do you need to remove drain plug in hot water heater after every trip? Just wondering if it is something everyone does and I should be doing.

Thanks in advance!

Joe

Well, I am far from an expert on anything camping, but since our camping is all packed into 4 - 5 months we do not drain the water heater until we winterize. I've read that others do if they have a longer span of time between trips. Doing it this way we've never had an issue. just my 2 cents worth.

Same story as above. I have drained my system with the low point drains and my hot water tank at least partially emptied. If you empty it by removing the plug make sure you relieve the pressure in the tank by flipping the valve at the top of the tank before removing the plug.

Our relatives in the Soo say that if we aren't there for July 4th we missed summer. It is well worth heading north for camping. You have some beautiful places to visit. vic

Off topic.

So a Yooper (U - per = a resident of Upper Michigan) is driving in lower Michigan and gets pulled over by a cop. There's always a bit of upper - lower stuff involved.

As he is talking to him about why he was pulled over the cop is swatting at some flies buzzing around his head.

The Yooper comments that those circle flies he was swatting can be a real pain.

Cop, "Circle flies? Why circle flies?"

Yooper, "Well... up north they always circle around the horse's hind end."

Cop, "HEY!!! I'm not stupid. You're calling me a horse's a$$ aren't you."

Yooper, "No sir, I would never do that.... Sure is hard to fool them flies though."

If you open the valves on your low point drain, then flip up the pressure release, it will empty out the low point drain. it takes about five minutes. then flip the release back down and close the panel door and you're on your way. just make it the last thing you do cuz you're gonna leave some clean water behind on the campsite.
