Quieter Air Conditioner?

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase a quieter air conditioner. Our unit is extremely noisy inside and we cannot hear ourselves think when it kicks on.

There are miles and miles of threads about noisy RV air conditioners but I cannot recall anyone ever finding one that was not like a train going by when on. Some brands say they are "whisper quiet" but they are not.

You might try a Google search for quiet RV air conditioner but be sure to read the feed back from those who have installed them. If you find one that really is quiet let us know. I looked for a long time trying to find one that I was going to install in the bedroom of our toy hauler, and gave up. I installed a Fantastic Fan instead.

I'm new to RV's but does age make a difference?

Maybe they are louder because they are mounted on the roof?

Ran our new one only a few times and yes I can hear it but took it for granted the sound was normal.

Describe noisy? Is it from just hearing the air flow out, or are you hearing something related to mechanical, like possibly a loose fan blade or vibration due to loose mounting bolts?

It is pretty easy to tell "noisy" with these units. Nothing rattles or is loose, they just run loud, with the compressor and motor directly overhead you cannot watch tv, or carry on a conversation.

Again, as a former Heartland RV owner, I can tell you that there are volumes of threads on this topic and people trying to find a "quiet" unit. Several claim to be "whisper" but people who installed them say they are not that at all.

But is is quiet? That was the original question. Most work well, they are just loud.

Cuts the noise by 20-30% in my case. You can actually carry on a conversation and watch TV.

I don't doubt your evaluation but the number of people reporting no benefit in noise reduction from "quiet" air conditioners make me want a DB test to compare before I would drop that amount of money only to find no difference.

Newfie, your make model and year of rv and the brand, etc. of the AC would help a lot.

Is it roof or wall mounted??

some of the smaller rvs come with wall mounted ACs and there are queiter ones out there.
But in all reality, everyones noisy.

Coleman Max A/Cs

I have had 6 Fifth Wheel Trailers, including a Mobile Suites, one Class C, and my current Precept 31UL with Coleman Max A/cs. These are the quietest by far compared to Dometic, Duo Therm, and Carrier. With the bedroom a/c on high you cannot hear it in the Living Room.

Since I am from the HVAC industry and have been for many years doing design, service and install, Mitsubishi was one of my favorite products to use.
However the ceiling cassette is only the fan coil part of the system and not a complete A/C or heat pump.
However it is one of the quietest in the industry.
Is it possible?
Sure its possible but the system would need the other half "condensing" section with interconnecting refrigerant piping.
Since the condensing units are not designed with a low profile it would have to be mounted on the bumper.
Since the ceiling cassette would be sticking out of the roof, you would have to fashion a water tight cover.

Yes, Coleman has a new one that’s about twice as quiet as the standard units. Check with your dealer.

I think you mean the Coleman “Mach”. We have two Mach 10 heat pumps. They are a bit more loud than in the old stix and brix house but the are right over our heads after all. When ours come on we don’t have to turn up the TV or raise our voices. In fact as I write this, ours just came on (heat) and I can still hear my cat purr.

There's good article on this on YouTube. Tells you how to remedy it it. And it works, I did it.

"So you say your air conditioner is loud...."

I bought two of these for my 2018 Alante 31V, pricey but with worth every penny. They make a dramatic difference in in noise level. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/searc...=wacko&Submit=

So, what exactly do they do? Redirect air flow? Slow down air flow?

Also, on the Coleman, I have slide registers on the cover that I can open/close to let more air go to the other ceiling vents. What happens to them?
