Rack and Pinion Slide Noise

Hi. We have a 2021 267BHS bought new. While we have owned several RV's this is our first with the gear bar slide. My question is this: Is it normal for it to make popping or chattering noises like the gears are jumping? Or should it slide in and out fairly quiet?

Thanks

it should slide in or out with the regular sound. Let some one operate the slide while you check the gear. Be sure you follow the maintenance schedule on the slides. Seals should be lubricated and on the moving connection Teflon (dry) or wd40 lubrication.

WD-40 is not a lubricant. It's a Water Dispersant. I use CRC Dry PTFE Lube on my rack and pinion slide, my stabilizer jack's, steps, and anything that has metal to metal contact.

It will pop/chatter when it reaches the stops either going in or out. Should not make noise in between. As Route 66 said you want to use a dry lube anything else will collect grit and dirt.

Quick update....delivered unit to dealer today. After sending video they said the slide SHOULD NOT make the popping noise. We just picked the unit up 3 weeks ago and haven't used it yet. They were very apologetic that the unit was sent home with us and said PDI should have said something. I actually brought this up with the PDI person but they said some noise was normal. Service manager said the noise ours was making was not normal. Will update with fix.

***UPDATE** picked up unit last Saturday. Slide fixed and works quietly and smooth. Tech determined there was construction debris in the gears - little flakes of wood, metal , etc. Cleaned teeth and gears and lubricated with a PTFE dry lube. So far so good!

Good to hear it was a simple fix. That type of slide mechanism is generally reliable.
