Forgot to add.... I can put whatever I want in the bed... wood, fuel, cases of water, whatever. Sorry.

At 11,000 feet your gasser has lost nearly a third of its power.

Towing with a 1500

I have a 2013 Rm 1500 with a 5.7 ltr hemi, tow package, OEM Trailer brake package with a 3:55 rear ratio and airbags. I tow a 2008 Jayco Featherlite 25 ft TT with a full load weight of 7, 020 lbs. Haven't had any issues with towing it. I use a WDH set up with it and sway bars. In tow mode the truck pulls it like it is not even there. But of course I know it's there.

I had a 2015 ram 2500 CTD with 75,000 miles on it. At 75,000 a check engine light came on. After looking into it it ended up being my actuator failed. The dealer wanted $6000 because they would not change just the actuator they had to change the turbo. It was not covered under warranty because it was an electronica part. I called a friend of mine that works on diesel trucks and he told me he would change the actuator for $2000 but would not guarantee it because it is an electronic part. He said it is 50-50 shot, some of them he changes are ok and some go right back out. By the way my buddy has a 2012 CTD and his emissions system went out. He chose to delete it and that cost $2200. My wife has been begging me to buy a smaller camper, specifically the Jayco X213. Instead of paying to fix the diesel I sold it and bought a 2020 Ram Rebel 1500 with a 3.92 rear end. My new camper is 4500 pounds dry and 5500 totally loaded. We have towed to the mountains twice and it pulls and stops beautifully. I guess the moral of the story is diesels do cost more when they break down and I am not willing to pay that price since I’m pulling a small camper now. Also half ton trucks are perfect for small campers. Anything over 7,000 pounds I would on a three-quarter ton or larger

At 75,000 miles the turbo should be warranted. It is part of the power train. Mine went at 68,000 and there was no problem with getting it replaced under warranty.

It was not the turbo it was the actuator which is an electronica part. Ram will not replace the actuator they make you change the entire turbo and actuator.

Though Ram dealers may want to replace the entire assembly, the actuator is a stand alone part and can easily be replaced on your own or by a local shop. Here is a great thread on the subject from another forum.

It is still an expensive part and I no longer need the diesel. The diesel was my every day driver and I drive 6 miles to work and 6 miles home. That is not good on the new emissions systems. My camper weighs 5000 pounds so again it is not needed. I made the choice to get away from diesel because of the costly repair issues that could possibly be coming down the road.
