Rear View Camera Pre-Wire (2016 JayFlights)

My dealer hasn't been able to tell me details of the pre-wire is for the rear view camera on the 2016 JayFlights. For those of you who already have a 2016 would you mind telling me the details of the pre-wire? I would like to get a camera ordered and want to make sure that what I am buying will work. Thanks!

Our pre-wire was the mounting bracket installed and wired into the running lights of the trailer.
The camera is plugged in and attached to the mounting bracket. The marker lights must be on to activate the camera. Works great and useful. Not sure it is worth the money.

Thank you, I plan to put a camera on as I do a lot of camping at undeveloped sites and think it will help to see the area I am backing into. I also noticed on the models with a bed in front that there are two USB ports with a sticker stating for rear view camera system. I m assuming it is so the monitor can be plugged in when you are inside the trailer.

How does that even work ? Is there a seperate monitor that you keep in your vehicle? I am interested in the solar integration though is that going to be an option ?

Yes. Separate monitor but I still don't understand the wiring. I will post a write if I EVER get my trailer. And solar is pre-wired too but I doubt it's done properly. Manufacturers always install wire that is about half the size it needs to be.

So the solar is standard and the back up camera is an option ? Is this an option on all jay flights? I was looking at the 28BHBE. I got a quote from RV direct and was very reasonable hope the new 2016 don't go up to much because that model was already at the top of my budget.

They come pre-wired for camera and solar. There isn't an option to supply the actual components, you have to source those separately.

On average the MSRP didn't go up too much but if I were a dealer I would be asking top dollar for a 2016 right given how hard there are to get.

My trailer doesn't have the bracket and the dealer was clueless about the pre-wiring. I have an email into Jayco but it's pretty frustrating that Jayco didn't provide ANY information in their documentation packet on where this pre-wiring is at.

Here you go. It's a joke of a pre-wire though.

Thank you for the info. I could not find a switch on my camper, but it does say it is prewired. The location makes sense. Good to have the info.

Thank you for info. I could not find a power switch on my camper (26bh). Location of prewiring makes sense.

The power switch doesn't exist. It has to be installed when the camera is put in and Jayco told me the warranty would be void for that location of the trailer if I installed it myself.

I know this is old, but just incase. My switch is in the front pass through against the front wall. It is NOT on the outside like the picture shows.

Thanks for the information, how can we find out if our trailer is prewired. I have a 2015 and if it is prewired, I will be ordering a backup camera by the end of the week. Would be great to hear impressions on models and whether any of the new wireless models are approaching the quality of wired cameras.

I'd look in the pass through and see if you have anything. Mine had a sheet with the diagram that blderman posted in my manual packet. Maybe thats an indicator. You can call jayco with your VIN and they can tell you for sure. 800-283-8267

I have not seen a unit with a power switch. As blderman illustrated there isn’t much to the prewire. Simply put the camera is tied into the running lights of the trailer. When you connect your tow vehicle and turn your lights on the trailer running lights come and so does your camera. It transmits to the receiver unit that is in your tow vehicle. You can mount the camera anywhere you can get to power from your running lights. I have observed a camera mounted next to the license plate bracket using the license light wire as the source of power.

Just bought a 2016 324BHTS with the "prewired backup camera" option. Switch is in the front storage compartment with a sticker that says "prewired", but nothing obvious in the rear of the trailer.
After much investigation, just figured I would buy this: Rampage Wireless Backup Camera for Smartphone or Tablet - iOS or Android for 120 bucks and call it a day!

Its cheap and most people like it
