I was going to let this pass without my further input, but because it's your wife that's unhappy more info needs to be offered.

I assumed your concern was contaminates that could be tasted or maybe felt when drinking. My Bad!

If it's the feeling of her skin when showering or washing dishes, IMO, Ed nailed it!
If you have hard water at home, with soft water the skin will feel 'slick' or ?? when washing and rinsing. This feeling is actually the clean feeling you don't get with hard water. check https://water.usgs.gov/edu/qa-chemical-soap.html
Testing for hard vs soft water: (shamelessly copied from the internet)
'... one of the easiest options for a hard water test is with a clear, clean, empty bottle with a cap, pure liquid soap and water right from your tap. Fill the bottle one-third full, add a few drops of pure liquid soap and shake vigorously for a few seconds. If there is a distinct lack of fluffy bubbles ... your water is hard. Soft water would have copious bubbles ...'
I suggest you try the above test at home and when camping. No amount of filtering will change the soft water to hard water. You could spend big $$$ on filters and the wife would still be unhappy. No one wants that!

It's a personal choice. Some/many on this site can't/don't/won't drink the water from their fresh water tank.
I prefer to take what I believe are reasonable steps to have good quality water in our FW tank for showering, washing hands, cooking, brushing teeth, and drinking. I would also feel odd about having dubious quality water sit in my water system for weeks at a time. Another quirk of mine: I won't fill my fresh water from a hose at a dump station (labeled 'potable' or not), but I see many RVers doing that.

Like many have said it's very likely it's soft water that caused the oily feeling after shower and wash hands

We have some of the hardest water around in Arizona. I started using a Camco single filter some time ago but that really does nothing for hardness. A couple of years ago I added a portable water softener and between the two have better tasting water and less hard water in the rig to damage fixtures.

Usually a result of a water softener, soft water will not strip the oils from your skin
