Removing oven and leaving stove top

We have a 2018 Jayco X213 travel trailer with a oven / stove top unit. We have never used the oven and do not think we ever will. We would like to separate the unit leaving just the stove top and turn the oven space into a cupboard for pot and pan storage. Has anyone done this and if so what advice can you give us? Or is it better to just buy a new stove top? And if so where?

Buy a new stove top. You can get them on-line or from the RV surplus stores near ELKHART.

I guess it might be me but I would just leave oven installed and just use it as a cabinet. That way you will still have oven if you ever sell the RV...

I use the oven for storage, you can get a surprising amount of pots and pans in there.

Here’s another idea for you. I removed the oven and put the microwave that was above the stove down in its place & made the space above into a pantry.No cutting involved because their the same size so it just slips into place. I raised the wave up a bit because I didn’t want to put a cooktop in and just wanted more countertop space. But that space is the exact size to fit both pieces. Pulled the wave power down to a new outlet and plugged it in.
If you pull the wave out just to have a look you’ll be surprised to see how much room there is that’s lost space just for the wave so it made sense to turn it into a pantry.

I remember when you posted this. My wife and I were just talking about the, for us, useless oven. She's short and getting tired of having to stretch to use the microwave. I'm pretty mechanical, but not so good with carpentry.

If you look carefully you’ll see that my wave is up above 2 1/2” from the opening and if lowered the cooktop would slip right in. Around 2010 and earlier it was almost standard to have the wave below the cooktop.

I think I will do this mod too. We have never used the oven. Actually when we go to one of our favorite places down a really poor gravel road, the oven falls apart on us and the door to the stove is on the floor.

Well here’s that huge cavity and items give you an idea of its size and that pantry shelf is 9” deep. Shelf has a lip in front and have never had an item fall down while traveling. I just used a few dabs of hot melt glue to hold the shelf in place and it has never moved in 6 years and over 50K miles.
Depth is 16 3/3”
Height is 17”
Width is 25 1/2”

I’ll tell ya, no photos are necessary for this one as it’s just a plug n play type of deal. But if you want I can pull the wave out and show you the electrical box location at the rear ( and believe me there’s plenty of room) I caped off the propane because I don’t need it in this location.
If you want a better picture of the shelf just ask.
Oh, on the shelf, in order to get it in I had to remove the shelf lip (3 screws) and put it Back on once in place

Now when you look at the wave you’ll notice a large grill on top and small grill on the bottom of it, when I raised the wave up that 2 1/2” i reversed the grills and now have the small one on top.

I'm getting ready to tackle this removal myself and was planning to use a nice 2 burner stainless steel camp stove that I can use inside and outside since I have a rail and gas access on the side. I have a X17Z with no drawers so the old oven area will turn into drawers. Any recommendations for the 2 burner camp stove is welcomed.

I also added a Fantastic Fan inside the main area and will probably remove the vent hood also, and use the Fantastic for exhaust when cooking.

Possibly a portable induction burner once I know how well the lithium battery conversion goes.
