Replacing Dump Valve - Handle Exchange Problem

Howdy,

I bought a Valterra 3" Bladex Valve (T1003VP) to replace a leaking waste tank valve. On the packaging material it says "Threaded handle for easy replacement." I take it this means that I could unscrew the short handle from the new valve and replace it w/ the much longer handle from my existing valve. So I thought I would try it today before pulling apart the old valve installation. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get the new shorter handle out on the new valve - it simply turns but does not want to back out. Anybody know the secret for backing these handles out, or did I misunderstand the "easy replacement" claim and actually need a drilled valve handle receiver without a handle already in it?

Thanks,

Mike

You will have to hold the metal shaft and just turn the black plastic handle off.

Well, if its just the plastic handle that comes off that doesn't do me any good. I need to replace the valve and it is some distance down the rod. Maybe I will call Jayco next week and see exactly what valve I should replace it with that will work w/ the long rod-handle that is attached. Thanks for the reply.

You can buy the screw on sections of rod at any camper place, they come in different lengths.
