Question Replacing slide motor

Greetings, I just sent an email to Jayco parts asking if the slide motor for my 2002 Designer TT is still available. I imagine they'll get back to me sometime next week.

My question here is has anyone changed out their own bad or worn out slide motor? What did it entail and were their any problems with doing this job. I know there is about 30 inches of snow on the ground here but I want to start planning for this repair now...

I have replaced a few but not on your particular rig. It's pretty straight forward. Just get access to the motor and pay attention to how it is installed. They are all bolt on and straight forward. Take pics of the electrical connections and installation.

Why do you say it is worn out? Most I have seen, something breaks in the linkage or a gear strips.

Here is a picture of the motor/gear on one of the 2 large slides on my unit. It is mounted in the center, between the slide rails and a drive connection is attached to both shafts. When the motor is activated the gearbox drives both shafts to open or close the slide. The motor reverses direction by reversing the polarity of the 12vdc to the motor.

My current slide motor seems to be leaking oil/grease plus it slides out extremely slow. I feel its safer to change then have it go out at some campground someplace. Thanks for your pictures and advise...it deferentially will aid in my project...

Very disappointing response from the Jayco parts department. I asked for a part number for my TT slide and was told I need to contact my local dealer. Trouble is I don't like dealing with them. They are very unfriendly and a pain in the butt to deal with. Anyone got any idea where I can get a slide motor part number or a service manual or anything to help me with this project?

Have you looked at the motor in question? It should have a part # that can be cross referenced.

They have never dealt directly with owners regarding parts unless it is a warranty and authorized by customer service.

As other's have said contact Lippert directly.

My large slide motor always sounds like it is going to stop when moving the slide. It was replaced once under warranty due to a "defect" of some kind. Mine never actually failed, but it was a factory authorized replacement or service letter or something.

My question is: Has anyone replaced their OEM motor with a lower geared version? I read somewhere that lower geared versions were available where the motor speed is much more constant even though the speed of the slide movement is slower. At least this way the motor wouldn't be close to stopping so frequent. I looks like a better method for me.

Thoughts?

The slide motor for my large kitchen slide (2013 351RLTS) always sounds like it's struggling, and lately, it just stops before it finishes it's job. I have to release the button, wait a few seconds, and start again. It sounds like it is probably overloading and kicking a breaker. This is the exact same issue I continually fought with my landing gear motor before I finally replaced it with a two motor system...

I'm wondering if I should do some kind of lubrication of the slide. I've never done anything to it before.

The slides motors that I have don't struggle unless the weather is cold and the slide is slowed down by the drag of the rubber gaskets. Other than cleaning the rails of dirt and grime and a spray of silicon to them and the rubber gaskets, there is not much that can be done to reduce drag.

You would thing that with so many rv's in use nationwide and that slides are in such demand, that some company could come up with something that would be less prone to trouble.

The Schwintec assembly was supposed to do that but didn't.

I host 7 months out of the year and I have seen dozens of Schwintec slides stuck or stuck sideways, etc. There is supposed to be a field fix for this, but no owner I have seen knows it or how to do it.

When I sent a stronger request to Jayco they responded with the part number of 0502006 which I believe is a Jayco part number and another part number for a Power Gear 523982 unit. As one member suggested I sent an email to Lippert so I'll see what their price is. Everywhere I looked the price is between $500 and $750 which I think is crazy but I suppose it is what it is...

I called that Jayco factory parts number and was told I could get the slide motor unit I needed for $438.00, and because its made to order, it would take between 2 to 3 weeks to get. I also sent an enquirer to the Trailer Parts Superstore to see if they sell what I need and what their price may be...

That's BS, go to the website listed above and I bet it's in stock. I found them on eBay also but the one above was the least expensive.
