Reseal the Under-Mount Kitchen Sink

We have an under-mount kitchen sink in our 2019 Jayco 264BH and much of the sealant silicon has come loose along the sink edge. So dish water splashed up along the edge of the sink leaks inside the storage cabinet below the sink.

I want to repair the sink but looking for advice whether to remove the old silicon and then add new silicon, or drop the sink low enough to replace the old silicon with a narrow strip of Dicor or EternaBnd tape?

silicone will not stick to itself. no matter which approach you decide is easiest, the old must be removed.

I switched to Lexel for plumbing install finishing quite a few years ago. It is urethane, sticks to itself if a new coat is needed, can be painted, is waterproof, more expensive than silicone, very easy to finish by smoothing over with a finger wetted with mineral spirits and so on.

Thanx Muckinfuss, I will look for Lexel sealant when I go to the Big Box hardware store today.

I also have used Lexel for many years in residential applications. I once scraped all the silicone off from the existing application and cleaned and filled it. It solved the problem then without removing the whole sink.

It comes in clear and white. I also use it in my rv inside and out for sealing many cracks in trim. Be sure and seal the container or it will get hard when exposed to air.
