Rock Guard?

New here so learning! About to have New 2018 Eagle 338RETS delivered. Getting the Equilizer 14K hitch for 2016 Ram 2500 4X4 and thought about the TT cap.
Are rock guards smart, a must, or just false sense of security? Definitely do not want flaps. Thanks all!

You refer to them as a rock guard? Rock guards are more or less flaps, many different versions of them. I run them when hauling my boat, I have the Rock Solid product, they work very well, just need to leave about 3 to 4 inches of ground clearance so the rocks that are deflected go downward and roll harmlessly underneath instead of bounce up onto your tailgate cause stone chips to the tow vehicle..

If you were asking about those "brush" type guards, those are splash guards not rock guards.

Welcome to the Forum from Western New York State!

I'm not sure what style guard you're considering, but anything that protects your investment is a good thing. My BIL has a TT with a full painted front cap, and he had Line-X sprayed on the front. It's an extremely tough, but thin bed lining material.

After two years of traveling in my North Point, I have after setting up soaping the lower front and a little tar remover (sometimes), WORKS!!! I do not travel gravel roads and do not have mud guards nor do we use one of those hitch flappy thingies.

We towed our TT from CA to AK this summer. I bought Rock Tamers since I knew we'd encounter gravel for a bunch of miles during our trip. For travel on asphalt in the lower 48 I wouldn't bother with them, but if I'm going to travel 10+ miles on gravel roads, I'll use them every time. I've got mud flaps on my truck too, but they don't do much to protect our TT when towing.

I was looking at a full length design verses protection behind each individual wheel. Right now I think I'll evaluate after each tow and keep the front cap clean. Thanks to all for your considerations!

We don't have anything and the TT has not suffered Its got 100K miles on it and about 20k of that on gravel or dirt roads.. But our investment was around 10 k and we intend to beat it into the ground.
If you want to resell a $250 investment in Rock Tamers might be good for a TT worth more.
