Roof.... HELP!

I have discovered a couple very soft spots on the roof of our "06" 31BHDS. They are under where the rubber roof begins in the front. After further inspection I'm realizing that much of the rubber roof is not glued down to the plywood. Is this normal?

A couple of question:

Do the rubber roofs "float" or are they supposed to be glued down tight?

Can anybody direct me to some youtube instruction on how to repair a roof? If I can get a visual of what it looks like underneath, it would help me know how to proceed.

Thanks!

Rubber roofs are supposed to be glued down, but often there are areas that are not attached to the decking; these small areas or "bubbles" don't seem to cause problems. Are your soft spots due to deteriorated decking, or are you feeling the elasticity of rubber roof material that is not glued down? Do you have any evidence of leaking? Does the seam between the front cap and the roof look to be in good shape? Do you have a dealer that you trust who could look at your roof and help you decide if you have a problem that needs fixing?

Here's a couple of pictures I took of my new trailer, and asked my dealer to look at. According to them, there is no problem.

Sounds like you have some moisture damage from a leak. The fact that the roof area is soft implies that the wood sheathing below the TPO (thermo plastic) roofing material has rotted and needs to be replaced. The TPO material has a fleece backing and if exposed to moisture can wick and hold moisture over the wood products.

Worst case scenario is that the entire TPO roofing material needs to be removed so that the roof structure can be inspected/repaired. The TPO material should then be replaced with a EPDM (rubber) roofing material.

Thanks, all. Looks like I'll be pulling a roof apart sometime in the near future.... Pray!
