Roof maintenance

Question: when people use Eternabond on all outer seams of their roof, does anyone also use Decore self leveling on the edges of the Eternabond tape? Thanks.

Some people do! I just applied the tape and called it good. Been there 6+ years now.

X2 on just Etearnabond. I did fill over some screws on the solar install even though they had rubber washers to seal themselves. I may go back and run some tape over the solar install screws at a later date. I also put a dab of Dicor in each hole for the screws.

I did seal the edges of the tape only because the debris from the trees was sticking to the edges of the tape.

Preventive maintenance. It is easier to install the tape now then to fix it after it is torn or is leaking.

That tape won't go anywhere if applied correctly. The first camper I owned was an old one and I did add Decor but after seeing how that tape held up for several years, I wouldn't add it now.

If the cleaning/prep is done correctly the edges of the eternabond should not be sealed as this interferes with the adhesion of the eternabond. The tape will last a lot longer than Dicor or any elastomeric sealant for that matter.

I followed Eternabond directions a couple of years ago, no Dicor caulk needed. It worked great.

Now I'm about to get my roof replaced with 'Flex Armor' because my 10-year-old Dicor roof has delaminated and gotten squishy... some stuck to my shoes while I was lubricating my TV antenna prior to a trip in 10 days. Seems they had several years the roofing material was defective, but warranty isn't good enough to mess with.

Oh well.....

I do not caulk the edges of eternabond, but where I have more than one strip, I layer it like roof shingles so there is just one leading edge facing front and that covers the edge of the strip of tape behind it.
Probably not necessary, but saves bugs and dust on the edge and may even decrease drag enough to increase gas mileage by a few inches per gallon.

Roof time..

I had one bad experience this summer, I got to close to a black walnut tree, it had one branch that was low, broke shower dome and pulled my solar wires and put 5 holes in roof. well I had Eterna bond tape on hand a brand new roll. I took a bottle of Windex and a roll of paper towel and scissors. cleaned wiped down an applied tape. I repaired the shower dome with Eterna bond tape as well repaired the wires replaced blown fuse. and that night my cousin had more rain than they had seen in months.. no leaks at all. needless My Desert rat self has learned to respect trees. I recommend keeping a roll in your ETC. box.. look at the shower dome on the right of roof you can see the white should be brown. thx Jeff

Yes, and had some primer paint all in one matched up to blend into the roof color
