Roof Materials

I have been trying to nail down what the roof makeup is on my new Jay Flight. We have not brought it home yet due to the delightful Pennsylvania weather. Jayco's website doesn't seem to have much info other that showing how strong they are. Is it a rubber roof or some other material such as fiberglass or some type of plastic?

Jayco Masters Training will tell dealers, to tell their customers, it's not as important what the roof material is made of, as it is what's under the roof material.

3/8" screwed plywood and a roof system which was tested up to 4500#.

That's kind of a dumb statement. If the roof material isn't of good quality what's under it isn't going to keep its integrity.

It sounds like a statement for first time buyers to impress them. Otherwise it is a dumb statement.

Does anyone know what they put under my (2009) rubbery looking roof? It seems to be holding up fine, always wondered what was under it.

Here is a link to the brochure for your TT. Looks like the roof is Tuffshell laminated vacuum bonded, with one-piece seamless rubber roof material.

Thanks for the link. It really doesn't say anything about the roof except for the rubber. I'd like to know what's immediately under it. I know it's probably some sort of bonded construction similar to the walls because I know there's styrofoam in there. Just wondering if there's a piece of 3/8" plywood on top or just a piece of plastic like there is in the walls.

The brochure says in two places that the walls and floor are made of the Tuffshell. Huh? The floor is just a piece of plywood.

Here is what the specs show, it looks like the roof and side walls are the same construction, no trusses on that roof.

One-piece seamless, rubber roof material
TuffShellTM vacuum-bonded laminated roof and sidewalls

The floor is listed as Unitized 1-1⁄2" laminated construction of floor

This is the sandwich floor which is 1/4" plywood on the bottom, 1" foam in center, and 1/4" plywood on top, its all glued and vacuum bonded. There have been a lot of problems with this type of floor getting soft spots. Its was and is still used to save weight

This makes sense. Thanks for the heads up on the floor--so far no problems.

The care and maintenance of your DiFlex II™ roof is simple and requires no special materials.
A. Semi-annual inspection of the roof is suggested. Check the membrane for
possible damage and check the lap sealant used in all termination areas and
around all accessories and fasteners. The lap sealant has a limited life span,
depending on the geographic region and conditions, and should be repaired or
replaced as needed.
B. Keep your roof clean. For normal cleaning, use Dicor Roof Cleaners (RP-RC320S)
spray or RP-RC160C concentrate) or standard products such as 409, Fantastic or
mild detergent are sufficient. Do not use harsh abrasives or products containing
solvents. For stubborn stains, a rag dampened with mineral spirits is
recommended. DO NOT SOAK. (Do not apply mineral spirits directly to roof).
C. When cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clean water to avoid residue build-up on the
roof or sidewall of the vehicle.
D. Parking in areas where fruit or tree sap may stay on the roof for extended periods
of time may result in unremovable stains.
Dicor's Di Flex II™ TPO roofing membrane is specially formulated for exposure to the sun and
natural elements. However, it can be cut or punctured by sharp objects. Use caution when
placing any articles or walking on roof. If damage does occur, the membrane can easily be
patched. Contact your local dealer or Dicor for additional information.
Use caution when walking on a roof covered with DiFlex II™ TPO membrane. The surface may
be slippery when damp or wet

What's under the 3/8 plywood? I assume some sort of studs or ribbing. If so, how thick? I'm trying to determine how long a screw I can put into the roof, without going through the ceiling.
Thanks!

It's wood roof truss which is claimed to hold 4500 pounds. Jayco did have a video that showed it on their website.
