Roof problems....

Yesterday I washed the trailer roof preparing for today's work. While caulking the front roof seam I can feel the plywood underneath the rubber is real soft and crackling.... There is no visible damage inside. Is there a problem with just leaving it. I'm pretty sure it's not leaking presently.

The trailer was a FEMA move in after Katrina. After it's use, it sat empty for quite some time. I'm figuring that's when it caught some water.

This hurricane is heading toward the coast. If it hits NC, I'm sure we'll get some rain from it.

I'd check it real thoroughly. Wood rot can spread. Take care of it now before it gets worse.

my 06 has the same feeling in some spots and i see no damage inside.

How would I go about checking it? I'm assuming the rubber roof would have to come off?

from the inside check at the roof vents and A/C opening (you will have to remove them) look close for discolored wood or moisture.

Dry rot, once started can keep spreading even when the source moisture is gone. I had to repair the roof on one of my previous trailers for this issue but it had an all metal roof. But, yes that was what I had to remove to replace the damaged wood.
I'll bet removing and resealing those flexible roofs is not as time consuming...
It's a fair piece of work, but a great investment in your trailer, not to mention your peace of mind.

Well from what I read it doesn't sound good. I would do as the other poster suggested but also make plans to repair it . You can find some good videos on YouTube on replacing a rubber roof. Sounds like a good winter project. Come next camping season you'll be all set to go. I would definitely make sure the bearings are greased as well if it were mine.

When I have the time it looks like I'll be peeling the top off....

It didn't spoil this week though! We had a major storm move through and dumped rain hard for about three hours last night. Snug as a bug in a rug.
