Rookie mistake

Can i be dumb sometimes. Arrived at the site and we needed to dump the black tank .... I connected the water hose to the sprayer head in the tank, close the valve in order to rinse the tank.... visitor show up ... you guessed right ... no mess above but under ... man o man the tank fell off the bracket.

Had to cut a large portion of coroplast , the tank is back up in place, lucky enough not much piping to repair. The worst thing was the toilet fitting that was plastic welded to the tank . Nothing broken just undone. I used abs glue after cleaning both flanges but that didnt work ... so i ended up using a lots of goop glue to squeeze and seal the flange hopefully that is gouig to work, for now that looks really solid ... time will tell.

Now what do you use to fix coroplast , coroplast tape , duct tape ? Contact cement , screw ?

I understand what happened but don't know why. Was that caused by pressure or weight, or both? ... something else?

I made a flange of faux wood (no rotting) 1x2 so there was a lip to screw into, used stainless screws along the edges where the coroplast meets. Then covered with gorilla tape.

Yup im pretty sure the tank ..balloon .... pushing on the floor above and down on the bracket ...the tank plastic ridge all round could not hold the weight nor the pressure and the toilet was about to overflow !!!! We caught in right on time.. when ive heard to loud booommm i knew ....

In all the years we camped I never recall running into an unfriendly neighbor. However, thinking about your problem reminded me how difficult it was when arriving or departing to find a friendly, tactful way to say, if I need your advice/help/company I'll ask for it. But you just have to find a way. Distractions always led to problems for me.

I understand what you are saying but it was all my fault ... to lazy to get the cell to get a loud alarm so i counted on my lousy wrist watch ... then letting myself go out of focus ... but hey all seems to be fixed so its a story to share at the campfire to be laugh at lol

There have been cases where the overflow pushed up the vent pipe to the roof and everything came out there. That is even more ugly than dropping the tanks, which can also happen with over filling a freshwater tank. The straps break, and the weight drops the tank on the ground. Either scenario will destroy the tank so while you may not think it is damaged it likely is or could be.

I know we all get distracted but that is one task that I do not allow people to walk up and talk to me during that process. Shut the water off or ask them to wait.

My black tank wasnt even hold by any kind of strap. The tank is help by a tick lip molded in it. This lip sit on let say an angle iron on one side and 3 bracket on the other side. None of the bracket let go. My théory is that the weight combined with the pressure managed to overcome the resistance of the tank lips , so the lip bent and get dislodge from the main bracket

I wouldn't say dumb, you might be like me! I can't multitask. at. all.
I have setup and breakdown routines. If I get distracted, things can go sideways sometimes.
DW says I never listen. Not totally true, I have to focus on what I am doing, my limited brain capacity tunes her out.
Anyone else have to turn the radio off when backing up a trailer?

"Anyone else have to turn the radio off when backing up a trailer?"

Radio off and windows open on both sides! When she hollars "STOP", I want to hear her the first time, not after the crunch.
We've tried the FRS radios and that just adds another layer of complication. It took a while but she finally understands that if she can't see me in the mirror, I can't see her.

Same thing just happen to me when I was winterizing temporarily while I’m up north for the holidays, only my tank did not pop off the bracket. I always carefully count the gallons going in with a meter. I have it in my phone how many gallons is 3/4 full for my black tank, that’s where I usually stop, only stupid me was looking at the gray tank specs! Now my dump valve seal unseated and valve does not close all the way, and I may have a slight leak at the top of the flange under the bowl! I’ll deal with it when we get back to warm weather next month. In the meantime I bought an auxiliary dump valve that goes on between the old valve and the dump hose! MF’r

I bet you're right. The "ballooning" tank distorted those flanges and popped it out of the brackets (or angle irons, or frame, or whatever you want to call them). Sorry to hear you got "penalized" for being sociable. No good deed goes unpunished!

We came close with a rookie mistake in our new 2023 22QRB this past season. I was spraying water through the black tank rinse fitting for quite a while. Mrs noticed nothing was coming out of the sewer hose. She went inside and said water was coming up the side of the toilet. I stopped and opened the grey valve, the water poured out. The stickers for the grey and black tanks were reversed., i hope it wasn't a factory worker's attempt at humour. We later noticed the grey tank has a grey valve handle and the black tank has a black one.
