Running AC and microwave together?

We have a 2014 White Hawk 28dsbh with the 15k AC unit. With the AC running, we can not run the microwave without tripping the breaker. Is this normal? My BIL has a TT (not Jayco) with a 13.5 AC unit, and he doesn't have any problems running them simultaneously.

Running AC and microwave together?

I would hope that wouldnt be the case?? I am assuming this is when you are connected to 30 amp service?

That's because the 13.5K unit draws 2-3 less amps than the 15K. Running the 15K and the MW is probably putting you at the threshold. Add additional current draws like the converter, clocks, fans, etc and you can easily be over the 30A limit. You are going to have to do some energy management beginning with some self education on how much current AC devices require and go from there. It takes some getting used to, but it's doable.

Running the 15k AC and Microwave in our TT will not trip the breaker, but add much more and it will trip. Cannot turn on a coffee maker or the electric hot water heater at the same time as the AC/Microwave. You may have to turn some things off as Bob Landry indicated.

We have a 13.5K AC, sometimes we trip the breaker when running the MW and sometimes we don’t.

Our dealer told us to turn off the AC when we want to use the MW.

Since the microwave is only ON for a few minutes, just cycle back the Tstat a few degrees so it won't kick on and then reset it when done with the MW. Other option is to turn up the AC a couple degrees and then do the MW. Sounds crazy but the heaviest draw from the AC is when the compressor comes on.

That said, we ran the AC and the MW a couple weeks ago in our new WH and no trips on the breakers.

I also have a 28DSBH with the 15K air, When we need to use the microwave, I turn off the Electric WH and AC, once I'm done using the microwave, I turn both of them back on.

Also understand that voltage level is a factor in current draw. If you are plugged into a 120 vac it's going to be better than 110 vac. I = V/R

Our dealer told us to turn the AC on FAN when using the micro.

They are lots of things that use current and they all add up. I don't know how much your converter draws but having many lights on can affect it also.

I think after a while you will get a better sense of what you can run. We always had a guide that we could never run the MW, AC and coffee pot, hair dryer or water heater on electric at the same time. At least 3 of them had to be off or someone takes a trip to the pedestal. The outside breaker usually pops first because it is the weakest from constant use,( and overload).

Here is a helpful chart on rv current usage. Just add up the current consumption and when it gets to 30a you get a tripped breaker.

It is about power management as several have rightfully said. Electric WH with the AC and we're good. Add a hair drier or the microwave and we're tripping. When we dry camp the generator is even less forgiving. No AC at all with the 2000 Honda. It is called camping, even though we consider it Glamping sometimes. (Glamor Camping if you will). One must suffer to some extent to be truly camping. If you like to read try A Fine and Pleasant Misery by Patrick McManus. He brings a comedic realistic view to camping, and gives insite as to why we all camp.
