RV Internet/WiFi??

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with wifi hotspots or antenna boasters for RV? I’m looking to improve my WiFi signal when out camping.

The last site I camped at had zero signal, had to drive 2 miles to pull up one bar on my phone. Nothing would help except for a satellite phone.

I like places like that to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings.

With regards to your question the are boosters and repeaters that can enhance a signal. You can build a simple wifi antenna to focus on an existing signal. These are dependent upon an existing signal.

Your best bet is to get a cell phone booster, instead of a WiFi booster. If you find WiFi in a campground, odds are it will be slow and overloaded. You're better off getting a cell booster, and hotspotting off of it for other devices. The Weboost systems are popular here.

I agree with the hotspot/cell booster approach. This will be much more reliable and faster speeds.


I've goofed with a number of WiFi repeaters/extenders. And recently decided to roll my own w/ a Raspberry Pi. The most popular RV repeater out there seems to be the WiFi Ranger, but I can't see spending hundreds of bucks to repeat an already cr*ppy signal and make it cr*ppier.




Hotspot with a cell booster means you'll have good internet while driving too. WiFi extenders will work only while you're parked and parked outside someplace with decent WiFi.

When we bought the Accolade Had the dealer install the Winegard Connect 2 4G LTE system. It boosts Wifi as well as connects through 4G LTE on Winegard, AT&T or Verizion plans depending on the SIM card installed.

We are happy with the system.

Last year I added a weBoost Drive 4G-X OTR. This is a signal booster and it's a good addition. Where there is no signal AT ALL however, it's no help. I mount it on an extendable pole outside my trailer. The extra height substantially improves reception in many locations.

I have a WeBoost in my house and it works great. I went from 1 bar and dropped calls to 4g/lte. My house is much like an RV in that I have metal siding and roof. Good at blocking signals.

We just installed a pepwave wifi/cellular router and a poynting antenna. Works wonders with a 500GB data plan.
