RV Toilet - Plastic or Porcelain

Would like some advice on porcelain vs plastic toilet.

A porcelain toilet came with our Jayco 264BHW and porcelain is far superior. But they are heavier so if added weight to your trailer is critical, you'll need to be careful if you change to porcelain.

I'd go porcelain if I had a choice. If I wasn't getting free replacements under warranty (I'm on toilet #3 - original plus two) and a downright cheapskate, I'd have porcelain.

Water from the bowl that holds the waste seeped into the outer chamber of the toilet. It was either a hairline crack in the bowl or a bad gasket. Domestic was aware of this problem and just replaces the toilet rather than offering to fix it. They are warranted for two years. I put the third one in at the end of the season (Fall 2020) so it hasn't been tested. The two years starts all over every time a new one is needed. Supposedly, the model 100 has been reengineered. Once it fails outside of its two year warranty, I'll go porcelain (if I still have the camper at that time).

That scenario I described above was also experienced by others here on the forum. Once enough fluid collected in that outer chamber it would begin to splash out the rear of the toilet where the water line came in during transport, spraying all over the floor of my camper. It's funny to look back on now but I had towed my camper back from a repair once (130 miles to the dealer I purchased it from). I found diluted urine all over the floor once I got home from my trip back. I carefully removed the toilet, tipped it and dumped about two more quarts of waste water out the back of the toilet from that outer chamber. The dealer got it back and I got my second toilet. I'm not sure what "repair" they did.

Fingers crossed I don’t have that issue with mine it’s going on 3 years in May

We are going on our 5th summer with the porcelain toilet. Love it!

I bought a used camper, could not get sewer smell out of camper. Realized it was the plastic toilet, it had absorbed smell. switched it out for porcelain toilet and smell was gone.

....just my experience.

My Greyhawk came with a plastic toilet, go figure. Used the dealer's gift card to purchase a porcelain toilet while waiting for final paperwork and such, replaced it when I got home, gave the plastic one to my dad. In his old camp trailer, some fool put a short toilet in there (one designed to go on top of a "box"). It was only usable by children. He was happy to have a normal height toilet again...

I wonder which warms up faster in the winter time? Also, does anyone know approximately the weight difference between plastic vs porcelain? I have always used what came in all of mine which was plastic and never had any issues, but if what I have goes out then maybe a change would do me good, lol.

First thing I changed out on camper before it was used. Went to higher porcelain and have no regrets. Hate the lower plastic toilets. They work but as I get older I like higher. Safe travels

That is one of the upgrades we made on our 2010 Eagle 30.5 we like it and it is easier to clean. We got the model with the spryer to make everything easier.

One of the best "Comfort" upgrades I've made was swapping my cheap plastic toilet for porcelain.
