Sealing water tank inlet? or better inlet?

Still preparing the RV to use for the first time. I opened the fresh water tank and there's road salt all over the inside of the lid. I'm amazed they sell RV's with a tank cap that doesn't have any seals to keep out gunk.

Any solutions for this? or inlets that actually seal?

Can you post a picture of what setup you have.

I have never had an issue with mine.

Not hard to cut a rubber gasket.

The little mesh covered vent hole is also not attached to anything and will allow water into your trailer. Find it on the inside and plug it.

I got news for ya, that road salt didnt "seep"in there. It looks like it travelled down the road with the cap off. I'd be more concerned what the underside of your trailer and the brake assemblies look like.

That little mesh covered hole better be attached to the fresh water tank because it's a vent. One of 3 generally.

I completely agree. He'd better wash that thing down.

I've just been through the very long process of removing the coroplast, cleaning out the salt, cleaning and treating the rust and spraying fluid film.
It's a brand new custom ordered trailer.
That's good news the cap isn't an issue, and honestly not a surprise it's another jayco failure.

Not attached to anything in my Hummingbird. Wide open to the great blue yonder. Or at least it was!

The vent is not attached to anything in my htt. But it is sealed with a dab of caulk on the inside.

Hmmm. Interesting. On my Eagle that little screen vent next to the gravity water fill has a tube connected to it on the backside that runs down to my fresh water tank. As I fill the tank I can hear air coming out of it. I thought they all had this vent connected along with the overflow tubes for purging air. Silly me.

I wonder if Jayco's plumbing the newer units differently these days. Our 2012 has the vent tube connected, besides an overflow vent for each fresh water tank. The little plastic cap lanyard finally broke off the original gravity fill port, so I installed a new one...then got creative with a piece of 12 volt wire and ring terminals to fix the old one. Should've thought of that in the first place!!
